    Where's the race track?

Been riding faster than I should be on the road, but want to go faster still.

Just having some trouble finding info on track days. There doesn't seem to be any exact info on anything: Hampton Downs website doesn't show any days coming up, and Pukekohe is very light on any details.

    Info:
    Have learner licence
    Bike-FZR250

Reason I state these is I saw that the advanced rider training states that the novice group should have a full unrestricted licence? Does this mean I cant sign up? Sounds stupid to not teach someone skills because they don't have the skills already?

    You naughty, naughty rider!

If the sites don't show anything about any days coming up then I doubt there will be any for a while. Try MotoTT Down in Taupo.
Check out my blog below for what you need for a track day as well.

And... you can ride on a restricted license, in fact I do all the time though I have the race bike so don't think that they care. They say it mainly because everyone on the track should at least be able to handle their bikes and ride with others around them and not go bailing off cause they can't do either.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.

Buy a smaller bike then ride it as hard as you like. 100cc sounds ok

its a shame that the California Superbike School is pretty much dead and buired in NZ - as this would have been the best option for you.

It's a shame it was so expensive too, as I'm sure they'd have had a lot more people ( myself included ) if it didn't cos so much. Also, no cordura, only leathers were allowed if I read correctly. Hard enough to get the price of a set of tyres past my goalie, let alone the same sort of money for a day at the track! I'll just keep watching those Twist of the wrist videos and practicing on public roads for now.

    $90

Watch out because virtually all insurers would not cover you for this.

Would definitely go at that price, but the insurance thing is a must really. Wife would brain me if she got the call to collect me and the bike, then finds out it's totalled and we're about 5k out of pocket!

Thats your in to buy a track bike. but dear if i deck the street bike and total it, it is $5k down the shitter. Whereas if i buy this ex racebike and just ride it on trackdays, the total loss is only $Y [if it cost $3k tell her it was $2k)

    I doubt she'd swallow that.

Not expensive when you work out the cost of putting it on and Hampton track hireage. They certainly weren't doing it for the money. I don't even know if having it in say Taupo would make it cheaper as they'd still have to ferry all the coaches down from Auckland.

I was a little effy on the price for the first one but reckon it's more than worth it after doing 3 levels now.

As for the no textile rule, I've seen what happens when you bail on the track with textile vs leather. I totally get where they're coming from. I had to buy full kit for my first time. Even got the back protector now and wouldn't jump on a track without being fully set up. Slowly buying it means it doesn't hurt as much

But aren't there some Superbike School "style" (I use the term very losely) training courses running at Taupo? I thought there was one a few months back. You had to have leather for that too but it was slightly cheaper as they didn't have the on-track coaches etc.

OP, this would be the go I reckon.

www.motott.co.nz It's winter so there will be a break till ummmm (go have a look)

Events section will show the next date of a track day and you'll find that most insurers will cover you (with higher access)

Go to the track day section of this forum and start talking trailer pooling ! Or ride down, do the track day and ride home like many do !

Synthetic gear allowed, so long as it aint shit gear, boots helmet and gloves are a gimme of course !

Lines riders in the slower groups to show you the way round the track and more knowledge about your bike, suspension, tyres etc than you could remember in one track day !

    Start saving !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
