    The Budget 2012

well no ones put a thread up here, but its all pertty boring,

good to see they are going after the loophole with boats/planes batches,

ciggies get a hit again, easy traget really,

still think they need to raise the retirement age, it should have been done 10 years ago as they new the baby boomers were getting to that age, but you can not really blame John Key for keeping an election promise, he has always said he will not raise it,

I think its good that we are not going to get to a massive debt ratio like Greece/Ireland SPain etc, then we loose control of what we can do,

    lmfao.

ever noticed how the whole "developed" world is in debt, except china?
perhaps the problem lies with the governments borrowing money at interest from, say, the world bank type institutions.

but the government doesn't make any money, they only take it.

so what they're basing their borrowing on is the earning capacity of the sheep, minus expenses, like: their own salaries, beneficiaries, flash underwear and BMWs to be driven around in...

then of course there's the interest on the capital they borrowed, which doesn't get printed as "money"

so, how do you balance the books, when the only creditor is a "bank" that does nothing but make debts?

what's your debt right now, as a Citisen/subject of the NZ government? a hundred thou? two? ten?
aren't you so glad you voted those monkeys in to get YOU all that debt?

    democrats for social credit anyone?

None of it's real value just entries in a ledger. The likes of the gambler JK - made his money on the money-go-round system that caused all the mess and now smiles and takes more from the sheep to maintain his cushy life.

Business as usual, I'll keep working, smoking and riding my bike. Might have to start growing my own backie before they outlaw it completely though.

It may be a minor issue, but I'm rather outraged by the ban on children submitting tax returns. I can understand the cost to the taxpayer of frivolously small tax returns and refund claims, but why not target that issue, instead of victimising a social demographic based on (not necessarily accurate) expected income? They wouldn't get away with targetting any other low-income demographic in this manner.

WOW love the word surplus, the reality is we'll never be in surplus nor should we get tax relief or any further services UNTIL government debt is drastically reduced.

I earn a very comfortable wage, I've had pay rises every year for the last 6 yrs - but my monthly budget is exactly the same (discounting CPI adjustments) as it was 6 yrs ago. The reason being is that my payrise gets redirected to my mortgage to get that sucker paid down as quickly as possible. I did the same when interest rates dropped.

My point is while you have debt you don't have savings they're illussionary and the same goes for countries.

I notice how no government ever talks about getting rid of the debt only borrowing less or more - but still borrowing none the less.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

I actually agree with you by the way. talk about disincentivise kids to go and get jobs. (Or, give them an early introduction to the black economy)

I think Labour were the ones quietly building up the debt before handing it off to the Nats, but all of them are real con artists anyway...

I'm not a fan of Labour but give credit where its due. Michael Cullen did a good job as Minister of Finance and brought in balanced budgets ie. the spending was no more than the governments income. He also worked at reducing government debt.

Where it went wrong for Cullen is his colleagues introduced new social policies with new spending, so his efforts to put money aside were undermined. Still, I don't think Labour built up much new debt.

National were unlucky to inherit the global collapse plus they'd promised tax reductions so the only way to pay the bills is to borrow.

even tho i am no labour fan i sort of agree with you on this, if you take out the massive bribe of the free student loans as well as the other gifts in the last term then i would agree with you fully, although it would have been nice to come out of the high times that were the late 00's with no debt,
