    Wing suiting with Jeb Corliss

    from Jeb Corliss on Vimeo.

Thought this level of crazy awesomness was worth a share, hard to tell what forward to vertical ratio he is geting from the camera angle, but he gets well close to some of the flatter bits so must be pretty good. Not a heights person myself, but gotta appreciate that shit all the same

Damn, that looks like fun/insanity. I presume he has a chute for landing. Wonder what you do if you are going to run out of vertical? Could you get lift just by virtue of your speed?

yeh they have a chute, which you pull before you run out of vertical, otherwise you're fucked. Doubt you could get lift, but possibly come close to level flying by scrubbing off a heap of speed, it looked pretty close when he was going through them trees

Fuck that would be awesome ... almost makes we want to sell a bike and try it ...

I presume if you ran out of vertical you could just flair up, kill the speed and land ...

hmmmm, never seen a youtube clip of that, so I'm gonna say it's not quite that easy, surface area of the wing is bugger all compared to mass so flairing up may not provide bugger all lift.

The Documentary Channel had an hour long doco on him last month which focused on the build up to the jump down the side of the Matterhorn.

Not quite. You are always traveling vertically downwards to some degree. If you run out before your chute is open you run out and get hurt, unlike a hang glider which can get lift when it gets up to speed but is obviously much bigger than a wingsuit.

Having said that, if you can find a nice ski slope with the same angle as you can fly a wingsuit there is no reason why you couldn't land without a parachute. You'll have quite a bit of forward speed to scrub off, but I do know of someone who has been planning this for a while.

    Awesome video by the way.

Remember watching a clip of this dude and and another, one going over and one under a bridge with a crowd of spectators on it. The other guy got a bit too close to the suspension wires the bridge hung from

    Well, half of him did.

Very good ratio I'd imagine. Considered possible to get close to 1:1 in a track without the wing suit.

For info the four part series was called Daredevils with this one being called The Human Bird. Can't see it in the listings for October, but I am sure it will be on again soon enough. It included behind the scenes of both the bridge jump mentioned above and the failed attempt to jump off the Empire State Building.

If anyone is interested, it is on again tonight at 10:15 on the documentary channel. Worth a watch, although the infamous bridge jump will make you cringe.

Not really sure how he managed to get away with that

To top two comments on his vid kind of sum things up though

"I know one day, there will be headlines in the newspaper quoting "Jeb Corliss dies in BASE jumping accident" Good thing is, I'll never be there to have to read it" -Jeb Corliss
the video is amazing, not because of what he did, but because he managed to fit his balls in that wing suit
