SV650 or VL800 speedo magnet dimensions?

I managed to break the lugs off the magnet when refitting the front wheel of my 2002 Freewind in the dark.

It is currently bodged up by using JB Weld to form the lugs that engage with the dogs on the wheel, which got me a WOF. But I do not expect this "fix" to last very long.

Suzuki don't sell the magnet separately for the Freewind, just the whole speedo assembly for $375. Stone me.

Having researched it, it looks like the part for the SV650 and VL800's would probably work, but I am not keen to shell out for one and find it won't fit. The part number I am looking at is 34983-21E00 but no dealers I spoke to have one in stock that I can compare it with. That one has 4 lugs instead of two, but there is space for 4 lugs in the assembly.

Bit of a stretch, but if anyone has a spare knocking around (or is willing to have a look next time the front wheel is off) could you let me know and maybe we can sort out taking some measurements? I have put together a very rough drawing based on measurements taken with a ruler, and it's not to scale so it is really an abomination... but I am hoping you get the idea!

Grateful for any help with this, or alternative ideas for a cost-effective solution. BTW, I'd like the speedo and trip-meter to work, so while a bike computer is an option, I'd rather get it fixed if I can.

err.. I bought a magnet for my VL800 from colemans for 60$.

You can also try www.volusiariders.com - they have links to USA places that sell em

I'll check out my garage and see if I still have the old broken one..

Thanks. I've read several threads on that site and it's where I got the part number from, which then turned out to be the same as used on an SV650. I can land one for NZ $50 but $60 locally would be better (assuming they can get one off Suzuki NZ). I just want to have a high level of confidence it will fit, so appreciate your offer to have a shufti.

Some variance in the dimensions is probably workable (e.g. lugs could be filed down) but the ID and lug-side OD will be pretty important

    Cheers - Chasio

I dont have it, sorry.. I'm pretty sure I've seen the spec online though.

The problem is they are massively fragile.. I wouldnt try any form of grinding or anything... brittle as.

Thanks for checking. The Freewind one seemed a little more durable than you describe (I was the problem), so maybe the VL and SV ones are a different material. Food for thought.

Anyone else who might have one?
