whats going on in 2 weeks two days? spent 3 hours cleaning the carbs. bit of a mess. just putting on the electrics . bought the water pump . still a bit to go . regans bike was running tonight just needs the chain. hes made a nice tidy job of it..and yes a tank ? l could just put the rg50 one on to get me going. oh yer motogp humm ..bye

Port rubbing is an unfamiliar term for me, but I guess from the context I stick a piece of cardboard down a cylinder and rub it to get an outline? That'll tell me how far from the top everything is? Given the stroke being set, it's possible to determine timing?

Yes; stick in some think'ish paper or card and rub it hard enough to get an out-line of all the ports (without moving moving it).
then as you say stroke is set and the basic calc's are form 3 maths from there...
(or go back through the 500 pages of the ESE thread for more complex calculations)

you should end up with something like this.

It makesw it easier to scan the portmap into the PC if you put the edge of the paper between ports.
