Looking at a couple of Aermacchi tanks which came from Bartels in Northern Ireland, they're welded up from 4 or 5 pressed pieces.
For low volume presswork in alloy, wooden press formers are adequate.
A mate here who has made several tanks for me always does a skeleton former - like a boat's ribs - that he can clamp the pieces to when welding.
He'll be retiring from the port company where he drives straddles very soon and he's probably going to work from home doing tanks.
He welds his using oxy/acetylene....old school stuff.
we have a big old power press thats been pulled apart , going to put a ram on it one day

After many years, we can officially say that Buckets are back in Palmy. Really nice turn out, especially from the Wellington contingent, so I videoed the last race of the day.
The weather was a bit average, my camera is a dog, but anything is better then nothing! Patience was a virtue as riders waited for a 2 hour Kart race to take its course, but I hope everyone felt it was worth it.
nice video

Great turn out from the locals and the wellentonins, thanks for the effort of turning up and making this the start of many hopefully. Also a big thanks to kartsport Wellington for paving the way. I think we all agree it's an awesome track.

Well done on the POW.
Anyway, looking at the new Yamaha R150; apparently it has a variable valve lift VVL on the inlet.
More poke down low...
Simple little system worthy of consideration.
