Someone suggested using hyper works optistruct to design a frame.

It essentially allows you to import a block of material and apply maximum loads, and then it will optimise the mass of the material against stiffness.
Carbon flat-plate bucket anyone? Kind of using carbon the wrong way I know but easy to manufacture.

Or use it to optimise a set of spun Al wheel halves. Kind of like the old astrolites, but actually light. Probably cheaper than buying RS wheels these days (Should be about 600 to do one set, or less if you did 2 or 3 sets). Do the post machining and make the hub yourself on the mill.

Bring on summer holidays and access to a proper workshop!

Yeah well don't get to excited. I will be going for looks cool and might work.

    Never heard of that.

I use PTC Creo parametric. Just because I have free access to it.
Also have free access to hyperworks through FSAE.

And by free I mean I pay Uni an extortionate sum of money and get that thrown in as a bonus.

    Looks like a swing arm.
What is the width as it gets towards the axle blocks? Looks quite skinny.

    Material? Ali sheet?

It runs better under windows due to a company called bconvergence but here is the Linux link

    http://www.caelinux.com/CMS/

not as nice as say solid works , but free, works well and for me open source

I export from Varicad in STEP/stl , netgen or GSHM to mesh then export as an Abquas file then open as Calculix

    Then I use a free service ( sometimes )

    http://www.onlinefeasolver.com/demo.php or http://dakota.sandia.gov/software.html

    to get optimization

then back to varicad to redesign

then I send drawings to Engineers , and they tell me what A twat I am ...or I stuff up a dimension

NZ must be starting to run low on RS125 NX4 swingarms, in 5 or 10 years they will be blaming GPR for wrecking all the old GP bikes
