Never. Dead OR alive
Only when I'm dead
When I'm alive, but only to a needy friend or family member
When I'm alive, to anybody I thought worthy
I'd only do it for money...

If it was close family members - I probably would say yes, but no one else.
I kind of got put off exploritory science & organ donation, when my Dad passed away - no sooner had he been pronounced Dead (after a fight with cancer) the head honcho Doc came in to speak to my mum & I and asked if they could ... well basically do an autopsy on my Dad - the thought of that still makes me shudder - and that was 12 years ago now. They did explain that because my Dad had quite a rapid developing Cancer - they wanted to see "What, where and how" it affected his body - Ewwwwwwwe I guess that is the only way they find cures - but NOT ON MY DAD!![]()

Quality of life or QUANTITY of life?
You only get one shot at life, so if people offer you a chance at prolonging it, why wouldn't you? This ain't no dress rehearsal and there ain't no slow-motion replays either. Life. It's a gift beyond price. Enjoy every blessed second of it.

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Aah where do I start? Having worked as a RN and done volunteer work in a Hospice, I personal would only wish to prolong my life if it was prolong in such a way as that I would be able to enjoy it. I would not if it meant prolonged severe ill health. Please do not get me started on the euthanasia debate as this would have to go on the Reg Rav thread (which have I no interest reviving or participating in).Originally Posted by Hitcher

Interesting position, my grandmother was diagnosed with (slow-acting) leukaemia about 7 years ago. She decided not to treat on the grounds that all the treatment options sounded horrendous, and really, she'd had a brilliant life to date and would just carry on as long as she could. She should have died 2 years ago.
I think it would seriously depend on the situation I found myself in (personally). Did I have children? And therefore would I want them to a) see me in such an awful medical state or b) see me deteriorate naturally. ANd what if I was working for John Hopkins and had access to new/unFDA'd drugs? Could I use them? The problem with radio/chemotherapy at present is that the drugs can't distinguish between cancerous and noncancerous cells...what if I find an experimental drug that does?
So yeah...while i think the book of questions is a brilliant start point, and can usually answer questions based on moral behaviour and acceptability, I don't think I can answer this one without more qualifiers.
It is easier to accept the message of the stars than the message of the salt desert. The stars speak of man's insignificance in the long eternity of time; the desert speaks of his insignificance right now. - Edwin Way Teale 1956
