    SOPA dwarfed by UK legislation

    uk-unveils-electronic-surveillance-plan

There she blows. Whilst I can understand the need to collect the data for security purposes, tis a shame that every other liberty disappears with it. Oh of course they need to have a warrant, but that'll probably be an automatic warrant based on keyword/contextual flags being raised by the system. There is no end to the bad uses of this information and there's is no conspiracy theory where there ARE agencies that will use this information "unlawfully".

    I'll repeat my statement previously ridiculed by many;

The only way to stop these people is to fuck them in a court of law, so they have no teeth.
"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Not new as in oppression as whole, new as in the new way to oppress. They've been a bit behind in the whole electronic thing & are scrambling to retrofit their oppressive controls. China on the other-hand had it sorted from the start seems they're a bit ahead of the rest of the world.

"They will give the police and some other agencies access to data about online communications to tackle crime, exactly as they do now ...."

This begs the question why it is necessary at all.

you cut that short. Currently their big brother monitoring is only available for cells (FYI NZ has the same monitoring, words like bomb, terrorist, assassination, kill MP etc will be flagged by the system) but does not extend to other electronic communication (not to say they don't already illegally do it) this would allow them to do it to all electronic comms in the interest of corporate profits sorry "public safety"

As a Blackberry user, I find it amusing they are going to log calls, messages etc sent via the Blackberry network... unless it's going to be like the Middle East (wonder what happened there).

I don't find their market situation very amusing tho

lmfao.. too true. try getting a book out the library on making thermonuclear weapons. or download the "anarchists cookbook"
    i'm sure i'm on somebody's watchlist...

i'm also sure the silent black helicopters are beaming mind control waves into everyone's brain at night... foil deflector beanies everyone!

but no seriously. if you think you have any kind of freedom, drive past a cop shop at 120km/h daily. or smoke a joint in public. or smoke inside a shopping mall. carry your rifle to the bank.

Only criminals have anything to be concerned about, so us non criminals wont mind getting government CCTV fitted in our homes - after all we´ve got nothing to hide. The potential for abuse is massive, there is no way they can limit access to a database of that size and complexity to just a few key individuals.
