Should I report this guy to the police?

so.. the story is.. bicycling home on Friday after work. Got passed by and passed this guy in a Ford Ute about 3 times.. didnt think that much of it except that the last time he was revving his engine oddly and "pushed" past me to a roundabout.
Went on a bit further and stopped at a red light - its a red light at a pedestrian crossing (no cars, just people). I waited till everyone had crossed and the light was red for them - its a bit slow to go green because its outside a hospital and people crossing might be slower than usual. I took off once it was clear of people, about 2 secs before the light went green, because there are 2 speed humps, a round about and narrow s bend out the other side, and if I hammer it I can get through before the cars and onto the wider road.
Anyway, I can hear this V8 ute coming, THUNK THUNK over the speed humps (ie, no slowly). He pulls up next to me at the roundabout, and swears at me for "running the red light" (its LHD btw, so he is on my side of the road) as we go through he yanks down in steering wheel and swerves violently to the left before going right about the round about.

I had a go pro on, and I have the whole thing recorded including his rego. I was so tempted to catch him and say "see this camera, it just recorded you trying to smash me with your car, and now its recording me punch you in face.." - but I couldnt catch him by the next lights, because they went green before I was 3/4 of the way there.

I'll chuck up the video later after I have edited it down to a decent length, if anyone is interested in seeing the footage.

Yes, I should have waited for the green.. and should it be necessary I'd pay a fine for it..

Sounds like he was pretty aggresive, however a video showing you running a red light mught not do you any favours with the police.....

We need the Dodgy driver thread back in action. Take it to the authoritys if you feel that is the correct course of action for you.

Yeh he was being a bit of a knob, but i think you must also realise many cyclists act like complete knobs on the road and maybe his olerance had been reached for the day.... examples I see frequently...
Riding two or more abreast, and getting shitty if you say anything in traffic....
jumping red lights... and/or not stopping, diving onto the pavement, zooming across a pedestrian crossing, then back onto the road,,,, I would guess our resident boys in blue would take a dim view if they see it?
lane splitting?? diving round, between, through traffic with absolutely no checking left or right, or rear observations
diving out from the kerb round a parked car, again with NO mirrors or rear observation
undercutting traffic on roundabouts (a few small tight slow speed ones on my route).. then bitching like hades when they are almost taken out for being on the left as the car peels off

but yes I'd seriously consider reporting something like that... however just remember he is likely to tell them he observed you jumping the red light in 'revenge'......

I'll bet the cyclist didn't indicate his intentions at all, like when exiting the round-a-bout.

You should report the knob. Road rage or any other excuse doesn't cut it. He was attacking you with a dangerous weapon. At least driving dangerously. Yes you committed minor offences but he was dangerous and how long before he succeeds in taking someone out?
Also if he is going to drive on NZ roads he should convert his driving position to suit and get proper indicators.

Don't worry about the red light thing... that's another matter entirely.

    What's the registration number?

As someone who cycled to work and recreationally for 15+ years I am well aware of that. There are only two rules on the road: might is right, and you have to look after yourself because no other fucker will. If that means jumping a red light (so the cunt next to you or coming up behind you doesnt turn left and kill you, or whatever it takes, thats what you do.

I can't understand why motorbike riders (a lot of whom are also cyclists) are not more supportive.

Sure, cyclists break the law: so what. its a survival mechanism. And the cunts of drivers who try and kill them, they arent breaking the law too?
