Tie wire pliers?

Is there a tool/pliers used specifically for tie wiring shit up, I'm sure I've seen some where u grab both ends of the wire or something, the pliers click together/lock up and u twist it until its real tight, then unclick and it cuts off the end and makes it all neat and tidy? or do people just use normal locking pliers/clamps and cable cutters.. prob also works.

I'm sure some special pliers exist. Bunnings didn't know what I was on about though..

Sure do, they are called safety wire plyers. You will have to go to a propper tool shop to get them or motomail.

Nothing comes close to these for doing a tidy job. Nobody at bunnings will even know what these are.

You can borrow mine given you are just down the road from home, but I will hound you to the pink zone if I don't get them back.

They would work well enough if you were tying up bundles of steel but fine lock wire with lots of turns would be another story. Since I am a dickhead all I can say is that a poor tradesman always blames his tools.

The old man was a builder for 30 years, he used em for making steel frames and shit for footings and concrete pours etc.

Rubbish, a true professional would lock-wire by hand! The tools actually nick the wire, so especially in use on multi-section wirings they actually lead to a weakness. (This from many hours lock-wiring to RNZAF standards).

Although the tools are pretty handy and make it easy for an amateur.

you might have added the twelve twist's per inch rule too..
the problem with lockwire as huff3r will point out that with the tool
you can over twist and over tension the lockwire rendering it useless..

Thanks Flip - brilliant! Thanks for the offer, I think I will buy my own pair since I am going to need them again and again on the race bikes etc but the offer is much appreciated, even though you ride a harley sing out if you ever need extra hands for anything.
