Cam chain life TDM900?

My 2002 Yamaha TDM900 is finally getting its "big" 40,000Km service. It's done a sniff over 70,000 but I can't find anything about camchain life.

If it's not obviously worn or stretched, then should I replace it and/or the tensioner as a precaution?

Have you consulted the oracles at Carpe? My 8fiddly is due some top end attention, nearly 60k on the clock...

They all mention the tensioner (especially 850 models) borking out at low miles but nothing about the actual camchain life. Did see one geezer on there mention he was still on original tensioner and chain at 130,000 kms. Am no further forward

have two trx's well over 100,000 on there original cam chains... its the tensionor that you have to pay close
attenion to and the shims on the cambuckets..

70k seems like a reasonable number on the face of it, but it's not that much for a cam chain. It's not a Duc Stevie so you can rest easy mate.

I flicked through those threads & yup, it seems the tensioner is the thing to pay attention too. A couple of members mentioned top end noise & replaced the tensioner which cured it. Similar or higher mileages to your own.
