I believe most ipods and mp3 players/flash drives have built-in voice recorders. If ya have access to one, use it, and either be short and sharp with him, or be over-the-top nice to him, whichever one you think will get more of a reaction out of him. Then you have anything that happens in an audio file, and can see a free lawyer about laying a grievance claim.

I know you prob want to, but don't smack him...that could land you in big trouble, although Im sure you'd still be smiling

This case is not PG, but harrassment.
The law says (in a nutshell) "Tell the nob that you are offended by the way he addressed you and that any repetition will result in formal action being taken". On the second, or subsequent, occasion it becomes (legally) harrassment.
Or meet him in the carpark after work and boot him in the nuts.

The workshop is really noisey, so my boss and manager didn't hear anything (what I was getting at is that he knew they were there and he still acted and spoke to me that way) untill I walked up to them and said "If you're going to employ cunts like that, I'm not fucken working here" Then I burst into tears (stupid girl hormones).

He was still psychoing it out when he came over to talk to my boss, he's a crazy mofo!

    Workplace harrassment

    Hi NC
I have experienced & won a case, so I suggest the following

Document what was said, what date, what time, who was there at the time.

Give a written letter of complaint to your supervisor or the
boss himself asking them to sort it or else if it happens again the matter will
    be taken further.

    KEEP COPIES OF ALL CORRESPONDANCE!!

If you do these things and that guy does it again you have just created a
    good case against him.

I have been there (17 years ago)where there were witnesses (who all
denied seeing/hearing anything BTW) but I won the case against the guy because I did all the above. It was actually the company that ended up accountable for the employees behaviour in the end - not the guy

I must warn you its not for the faint hearted. cos they respond with the worst things your've ever heard about yourself based on twisted truth - gotta get a thick skin real quick if you take it to that point.

NC, I presume that this is not a 'one off' situation. If it is, chill out and remember the dickhead's gone in a couple of weeks.

If it's an ongoing situation then you need to take some action.

I just hate to think that you're letting some a-hole's comments get to you. Life's just a bit too short to take everything too seriously.

Sounds like you've got 2 issues.

2nd part first: if he's going soon, grin and bare it.

1st part: without being there, I can't tell if your boss and manager didn't step in and let the contractor know he was being inappropriate, is an indication that they either:
    a) also figure he's leaving anyway and just put up with him for a little longer
    b) won't be much help to you if it happens again, whether with this contractor or another person in future

You could always ...erm, no that's probably not a good idea.

Hey NC - sounds like you've got a lot of good advice in here. The one additional thing I'd sugeest is to get your manager, you and this dick head all in the same room. Ask your boss to call a meeting with him, make it official (i.e. not just a chat in the lunch room - make it work time - 'official' time.

Raise the fact you don't like being called those names (as well as any other issues that may be going on) and confirm you have your Manager's backing on this issue. Also table the fact that he's temporary and he might think this gives him licence to get abusive.

    Not so.

It's fun to have fun in the workshop and I know various names get issued in jest, but when it comes down to it, and it's just dowright offesnsive - draw that line in the sand and tell them to back off.

Getting all three heads together puts the idiot on notice, but it also brings your boss (and the whole company) into the fight and puts them on notice too.

No-one deserves that kind of shit

Workplace sexual harrasment is the responsibility of the company. If the company manager and/or directors are aware of the abuse they are liable. Make sure you document all the actions by this work mate. Also have a meeting with your manager regarding this issue follow by a letter to confirm the meeting. The letter is evidence of proof.

I would advice seeking legal advice from a employment solicitor.
