Used to think the same.
But no. Its no good. A life for a life is a primal philosophy and lowers us to the same level as the criminal. The other problem is when we get it wrong and execute the wrong man.
I read Albert Pierrepont's biography, a man who was a third generation of Britain's principal executioners. Cold stuff. Necessary and humane but chilling. Then I got the DVD out just to give myself sleepless nights. Albert concluded that hanging made no difference to whether murder happened or not and ultimately thought it was wrong.
Even then, the subject of hangings and state execution piqued the imagination so I checked out a few sites. After viewing and thinking about hangings in Iran in particular, my thoughts on capital punishment evaporated. In Iran they hoist the prisoner - men and women - up on a crane wire. No sudden jerk, no clean death, just banal slow killing.
Google this if you wish.
"Not killing" child molesters lowers us to their level.
Killing them protects their next victim.
I was quite impressed with how that raghead got the job done without so much as a twitch.
I've never got it that clean when killing a mutton, even when you break the spinal cord clean the critter still kicks a back leg for a few seconds.
Very impressed !
there's a bit at the bottom of the brain, where it connects to the spinal column (subcortical hypoglossal nerve - medula oblongata) . take that out clean and anything will go down quietly.
the other thing, if you're hallal-ing stock, is to go for a quick bleed out, artery in the throat normally works.
Yep know about that, but still usually get a kick/twitch or two.
Just normal home kills, but always had a thing about getting the job done with a minimum of suffering.
Watching that Arab guy getting the chop opens a lot of different thoughts,,,from "hell the was quick.
Too wondering if the guy with the sword sleeps well at night.
You'd sort of hope not,,but different mind sets I guess![]()
Speaking of animals kicking around...google chainsaw pig....
When I was on a farm in my early years, I remember my brother home killing a sheep by slitting its throat - I still remember after 20 years the sound of the lungs "gasping" for air through the newly exposed wind pipe. Firing squad is the way to go if there must be a choice.
