It could be argued that for us living in NZ it is more important that our politicians and police are embarrassed by having to pay so that they are then more reluctant to pull the same stunt with less resourced NZ citizens, yeah like that would ever happen.

It will come out of their budgets. Yes, it will be paid from our taxes but from the taxes assigned to their budgets so there will not be a direct increase to us just as there wasn't with Arthur Alan Thomas. But what they have done is left a pile of steaming dung behind which will be thrown in their faces any other time they try to pull a similar stunt.
