My apologies... to another angry cager

This morning was a choice day to ride to work... not too cold (but then again I wear heaps of gear), perfect clear sky, dark blue all around and then the horizon was orange/yellow, with the moon and few stars shining away... it was just beautiful...

I was splitting lanes up Onewa Rd, as usual... and once past the Gas station at the bottom of Onewa Rd I miss-Judged the two cages ahead of me, as I thought one was further ahead then the other, and they were quite close together so I thought I could kinda weave slowly and miss both mirrors...

Unfortunatly I was wrong... they were exactly spot on side by side and I swearved one way and missed the left hand cages mirror... but my right mirror smacked the right side cages mirror... I heard the bang and felt the bike kinda being pushed to the side...

First reaction: Check my mirror (it's ok... *phew*)
Second Reactions: Look in my mirror (saw the cages mirror still attached to the side of his car *phew*)
Third Reaction: Wave to apologise (don't know if the cager saw me wave or not but I tried)

There was a biker behind me at the time... not sure what kind of bike as all I could see was the outline and the headlight. So if you were the biker behind me (you'd know if you were behind me I have blue LED's under my seat shining down to my pipe and rear wheel), could you see if I broke the glass on his mirror or not?

    I hope not.

But anyway, my apologies to the cager, and to all the bikers who might suffer from the wrath of this cager if he turns into a bike hating cager because of this incident

    *felt bad about that*

Must be the day for it! There was a fella riding in front of me this morning, got to the lights at the end of Brooklyn hill where there are two lanes of traffic - he did the same thing (almost exactly). However he was most unlucky as the cage driver got out of his car right then and there and the abuse started . . . . Not sure what the outcome was - I was late for work and just kept going.

YEah I've had a few close calls in the past splitting lanes, nearly hit a few mirrors... I'm thinking from now on I'll just cruise up the centre line (Seen other bikers do it). Then I don't have to worry about merging or anything... (other than oncoming traffic)

PF - dont stress, car mirrors are pretty hardy - it should be alright. If you had hit it too hard it would have just folded out the way anyway.

However, your appology looks kinda funny with a footer reading "this message is brought to you by the letters F and U" . . .

    Cool

Placidfemme - Are you having trouble working out if there is enough distance between the cars for you to get your bike throu the gap?

I always say if in doubt - stop and wait as the cars will move on and then the gap will get bigger.
You will only have to wait a short time before the traffic starts moving again.

Kind of... When I was approaching the cars, I could see they were pretty close together... and new I could fit through with a tight squeeze... The cars were at different levels like so: (excuse my drawing...)

    Car 1 ................... Car 2

    | ...................... |
    | ...................... |
    >> .................... |
    | ......................<<
    | ...................... |

Now the ">" and "<" are the mirrors...

Car 1 was slightly ahead of car 2, so I thought I could weave past car 1 and then weave past car 2 as it would all be the same movement (kinda like counter steering... but not as fast... and more weaving than actuall counter steering).

But by the time I got even with the cars... Car 2 had moved forward (as the traffic started moving again slowly) and they were exactly side by side... before I had the chance to think about it "bang" and my right side mirror hit Car 2's left side mirror...

    Cool

and when the other car moves forward, then you stop and wait.
Because the gap has closed down.
    It will open up again....lol.

I have struck this a few times... and its a buggar.
But I have time to check out the driver hehehehe.
(you know what I mean mate)
They are sometimes real cool and they move their car over to allow me throu.
So then I achknowledge them for that.

Good ride in this morning, not lane splitting(especailly not on borrowed bike), not in a hurry, enjoying the ride.

Sitting back and seeing how things go, Thanks to all the cages who move over, I do, and you do notice, but often difficult to acknowledge.

Are you going to paint a little stylised mirror on your fairing?
Like the fighter pilots did to record a 'kill'.

I know how you feel - I've whacked lots of mirrors, and usually feel a bit guilty, particularly as it sounds so loud that you think you've broken summat for sure. But car mirrors are more robustly constructed than bikes ones, so it's very unkely your mirror hitting a car's one will break the cars mirror. I have broken my bike's mirrors a few times though.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Bike mirrors arn't cheap either I've never had to replace mine but we've had to replace Sam's twice (just two mirrors... not 4 mirrors) and for the FXR they are like $80 - $100

    Bloody expensive little things
