Drunk drivers are more likely to kill other road users, than the boy racers ... currently the target of Goverment victimization ....

Does every drunk driver have an accident? Is every drunk driver caught? If people knew that the vehicle coming towards them was piloted by a dickhead under the influence, would they take more care for their safety and potentially save their own life? I see no reason in wasting resources by chasing ghost chips. Granted I'd rather they didn't get influenced, but being realistic about it, it happens every day without us knowing who where or when. Gives us a chance by lighting them up and if they do fuckup, hammer them hard.

I remember reading somewhere years ago that it was estimated that drunk drivers drove something like 500 times or more under the influence before getting caught although I guess in small towns you soon get known.

That doesn't surprise me. I lived in a small town for 7 years and was driven by drunk drivers countless times without incident. One remarking that the secret was to close one eye... which is fuckin disconcerting when it's the eye that you can see... and as you say, everyone knows it.

A person with 29 convictions would lose a few cars in the process ... they couldn't afford to drink, they couldn't afford to with their car payments/insurance. (think of the bonus this would give the car sales industry)

There is merit, like the taxis in Singapore, or is it in KL, where a light on the roof goes off if they exceed the speed limit and can only be turned off by a cop. But this continues to use up Police time and if you look at all the sad fucks around with blue LED's added to their ride it is hardly going to put them off. Better if the vehicle itself can provide the punishment. I was thinking of an electrical circuit that is only completed and thus able to power the car once the driver is in the seat. Then, if alcohol or drugs to a level that affect your driving are detected, or even other dodgy stuff like the possession of ginger hair, the electrical current will increase.

At a certain powerage the driver will have to decide whether to stop and get out or continue to suffer the increasing pain. There will also be random spikes in the current to catch out those recidivists and to kill them dead.

But that's in the future when we all have electric cars. For now I think a spike that extends gradually from the steering wheel towards the chest of the driver has two benefits. First the driver won't want to crash, and second you can limit the length of time they are on the road by the altering the speed the spike extends. And of course, there will be random stabbing motions as well.

Right, take that fucker to the Dragons Den. I didn't even need to do poos.

And of they can afford a dunger with no insurance every 6 months, what changes? Let them do it. Give them the rope to hang themselves so to speak and if they fuck up then by all means crush the car, if they don't then technically they've done no harm. Tis never serious, have at it man... tis just an idea for changing the rules and offering up a different sort of prevention scheme that'll be cheaper than the current one.

The problem being that cars will be left in the middle of the road, people will get angry and start shouting at each other, it'll be chaos, tyre iron fights becoming more and more frequent, people rushing out of their houses with kitchen knives and chainsaws, blood and gore everywhere....... I'm off to hollywood with this right after I've had another trip to the chamber of ideas aaaaaaaaaaaand the bike shop for a new exhaust gasket.

I think that just marking the car of someone convicted for whatever the offence of the day is should be sufficient, a bit like taxis seeing as they are all criminals anyway. Friends and family would be too embarrased to drive it so we would push back peak oil for a few more decades. When seen driving on the road those upstanding law abiding citizens can keep well clear, point and shake their heads. The local Charles Bronsons can be exempt from any damage caused to the vehicle or the driver if it is seen out in the dark. In fact they should be encouraged to target these drivers to help reduce graffiti, teenage pregnancy and all the other good stuff that the kids get up to these days. No offences for three years and you get to take the yellow star or whatever off the car, and be welcomed back in to our happy and joyous society.

But ejector seats would be good, especially if angled randomly off the vertical plane so you get a few splatting against shop fronts or buses.
