    Radar repair?

I could have sworn there was something on here but can't find a thing.

Does anyone know places to get the old Cop Detector sorted? It's a beltronics, and it still goes perfectly but something inside is fried that screws with the smart cord alert LED so it's permanently on. Kinda screws up my bike setup which is similar to the smart cord but with a strip of LEDS. It's been needing a bit of a freshen up too as it's packs a wobbly if it gets too hot (sun light).

Radar Direct do a swap for $250 but I was hoping there may be a cheaper option since it still works, meaning I'll be essentially paying $250 to get the leds to blink on the bike. Seems a tad silly.

Put it this way, at the moment I have black electrical tape over the alert LED on the cord so I don't even see it. I would like to get it sorted so the setup works on the bike but I really don't think $250 is worth it (that's a lot of gas/tyre/track day/booze the list goes on).

Did someone get a speeding ticket over the weekend?
I've spent my money on bikes, booze and babes. The rest I've wasted....

haha na, I saw I had some money so thought I might as well spend it. Didn't ride the bike this weekend. Picked up a few cops driving back from New Plymouth though. I thought the weather would have been too shit for them. It was fun in places. Sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to be riding.

How do you know it's the RD and not the smartcord that's faulty?

This would be a good question. I checked with Radar Direct (I brought it from them years ago) and it does it with both my cords. They're different types as well (ones a ciggi lighter one and ones a hard wire type). I would be nice if it was just the cord but it also does it with my bike set up.

So I was thinking unless both those cords a stuffed it would be the detector.

Ah, right. Have you checked that all the 'pins' in the socket on the side of the RD are straight and corrosion-free? Sorry for the 'simple' questions

Edit: a quick google search finds someone else had the same issue with their Escort RD and it's a return to Beltronics issue. Sorry.

I haven't checked actually and I might as well have a look. I think what you found on google is probably what I stumbled across a while back. If pay $250 is the only option, I may just have to rethink my 'needs'. Fingers crossed someone may know of somewhere cheaper but if it has to get sorted by Bel then I'd say that makes paying less money unlikely.

US$99 + postage to Beltronics in the USA will give you a fully functional STI Magnum within a few weeks. Not only will you get a repair but you'll get a better detector with way better K band detection. Not sure if the offer is still running but drop them an email or live chat on their website (when they open) and ask

Give Parallel Imported a call. They have repairers.

This sounds interesting. I'll give them an email and see what they say.

I was thinking about them but I'm a little reluctant as my wife had problems with her phone when it went there for a repair a few years back.

Yep that was my point - use the Jaycar switch to drive your existing LEDs from the headphone output of the detector.
