So much anger
I like kittens. . . . and rimjobs.
Sorry to interject in a conversation about kittens and rimjobs but...
Is there any general wisdom or guidelines on where sidecar wheels should sit in relation to each other?
Are the front and rear wheels generally in line or area they offset somewhat?
Anyone got some dimensions or a plan, even rough as all hell?

Seriously though, I was looking at a bucket 'long' rig, of the type that most of the running rigs are build from and I noticed how out of line the rear wheel and front are, their center-lines are quite far apart.
Most of the bikes out there are long bikes, I've only seen one short one and it's quite an intricate build given the scale.
It's an interesting subject as sidecars are so, well, different.
I'm musing over what makes them good and/or bad.
I had another swing and a drive (if that's what you call it) in the weekend and had a real laugh, even pranging it was fun.
It's really cool being on something that is so fun where there is so much scope for refinement, it made me want to do laps all day.
So yeah, basically any wisdom on construction and proportions would be interesting to mull over.

yes there is.
up to you but there is a maximum offset you can have. can't have a trike. generally front and rear inline(ish)
yip, attached my blueprints..
There is heaps online, check out and have a search on www.steveenglish.com or the link Danger Dave chucked up or google up a storm on manufacturers like LCR, Windle, Baker, DMR and so on.
Find yourself a someone whos built a couple sidecars for good advice.. Is Blaymires on old kiwibiker?
must be a couple builders in nz or track down our kiwi legend Mo Haley..
here's a video of him talkin sidecars:
I also made and gave out a bunch of copies of a sidecar dvd at the bazza last year which went into setup of bikes, building techniques etc its pretty cool. Maybe someone on here can swing ya a copy or I can burn off another one and send it to you. Think its called On Any Other Sunday
