There is a good F2 bike for sale in Aus, ( wests ) not sure on price but if you had that you should be up with the top NZ F2s of which i think there are 4 at presant. In the F1s there is Keiths unfinished shorty, Pates roller with blown engine, Jim Bilbys long bike, not sure on the ex speed record long bike from the S.I ( maybe kickha knows ) maybe a pirate bike !. Oh by the way who brought the Harris bike???
Pates roller with blown engine sounds a bit of a handful for me, neither of us are mechanically minded (although I'm guessing that will have to change).
Aside from bike length, what's the difference between a shorty and a long bike? I assume the long bike is good on the straights, and the short bike is good in corners. Do they both compete in the same races?
The F2 in Aus could be an option too.
I'd rather be sorry for something I've done, than for something I didn't do.
Yep you'll have to learn some mechanical skills as there are very very few parts that you can buy off the shelf of these things, all modern F1 & F2 bikes run together so really it comes down to weather you want to get 600 or 1000 either way you'll be racing the same group of guys & girls at every meeting. The main difference between long and short is in a long bike the engine is behind the rider and they are all 1000cc engines and in a short bike the rider is leaning over the top of the engine and (in NZ) these range from 600cc up to 1300cc(?)
