Hi Spyda, in light of some confusion that appears to have arisen regarding the apparent responsibilities & expectations placed upon selected paying spectators.
If you could give a shout out on the P.A calling these people to the commentary tower in good time to help out, it would be greatly appreciated so these people arent made to feel like they have let the side down after the fact.
Im sure the apropriate people will be more that happy to pitch in if asked.
If they are not asked, then i guess they may assume their help is not wanted.
Thankyou very much for the truth & humour you provide on our behalf.
Cheers,
Steve.
Well fuck me!! Is there a clause in the MOM's or any supp regs that states that spectators have to commentate?? Which clause is it again???
I know, I'll do it for free....... "Look at that fucktard..... what a dumb cunt... call that a racing line?? He's spent too much money buying a bottomless money pit..... He should have taken up knitting... His balls are smaller than Traceys..... How did that fucker get a racing licence? Who scrutineered that piece of fucking shit??? He's a mobile fucken chicane that shouldn't be allowed onto the track - he's simply too fucken dangerous and will kill some cunt....." (and that's just talking about me....)
Some people have the gift of the gab..... others... well, to be honest, just need to sit down and drink more Ken.....

Is it still beastiality if ya fuck a frozen chicken??
sometimes i'm sick of asking all the time, it's like talking to a brick wall and that's talking about the wider people there, not any individual.
I started doing post race interveiws as a competitor and realised the commentators don't know everything about all the bikes and riders. I then took it upon myself to spend some time with the commentator at each meeting and give then a bit of info, and didn't take offence if they used half or none of it. Once i wasn't racing i then was still providing the info, and was asked to stick around for a chat while the sidecar races were on, the commentators then worked out how to get the right stuff from me, how i could improve etc.
i found it added to my meeting and gave me something to focus in on to get a little more out of my weekend.
then one day i've still got the mic at the start of a superbike race and they invited me to stick around, i was pretty nervous but just got on with it.
It's always good to have assistance, and most of the time people find it's not as scary as they think.
maybe some folk should listen to see how well an extra voice works in other classes and see whether they think it'll do their class good as well.
as for paying spectators doing it for free, at Ruapuna i paid for a weekend pass at $25, didn't get a drop of water, a bite to eat of a glass of beer during or after the meeting from the thursday i arrived at the track till the monday when i left....
I'd do it if it wasn't for my torettes.
Spyda, you sir are to be applauded.
You certainly do have the gift of the gab, and you know it. Just like a hot looking girl knows she's smoking hot......
The series would be a lot less without your commentary, that's for sure!
The clubs need to step up and ask for help for the promotions of each class at the track and on CTAS. Why is this not done at riders briefing?
If you remember, I paid you to help commentate at the TRRS, and you even got to be fed a huge meal, and were also supplied with free piss! Why can't other clubs do the same?
The NZSRA even had riders/teams sheets for the commentators too.
I think Steve has commentated at quite a few meetings to be honest, even the truck meetings in Taupo too.
Maybe some of the 'others' in the sport need to step up and contribute instead of criticize.

What happened to "look at at the old slow has beens"?
I did commentate at the truck meeting, but fortunately my brothers company had the corprate suite below the commentary box & I lightened him a number of ales in order to keep the chatter flowing.
Not sure I could have done it without them.
answeres in red except this. Steve and yourself have poked your nose in occasioanlly, but there are others who are more than capable but either think i'm doing enough as it is, they won't be good anough or can't be bothered. To me i try to make a point that in reality they're only talking to me, like an interveiw and i'll find out their level of ability and voice enthusiasm and take it from there. i'm pretty sure most people who've helped have come away with that extra feeling of doing something different and interesting....
It'll be harder at Hampton Downs as the box is pretty isolated so i'll make an effort at riders breifing to get some people to help
An isolated box eh???!! That would make auto-cunninglingus pretty difficult.....
Why not say to them, if you haven't got a pit crew capable of conversing, then you'll just make up stories about them.... like when you found them chockablock up the neighbours goat etc..... that'll get them volunteering.....
Keep up the good work Spyda.
I might not have been at the track lately, but still heard you on CTAS.

The Puke box is a bit of a hike from the infield too. I've helped Ray up there a couple of times.
I think the big difference is, you are an actuall business person who treated what you organised in that manner in terms of compensating those that helped you) and the clubs run as clubs still. ( Not knocking any of them) THis is where the repeats start once again-- Look at the letter I sent to every single registered racer years back, the response was fin pathetic, the riders them selves do not care enough, and are just getting softer and softer with mum and dads money.
Seth Deverau did a good job of interviews I thought Jelly. Hey, could I come to the next 2 rounds and just be there to interview the sidecar teams, no forgetting that is where my racing started in 1986, O the fun we could all have together holding hands
