I'm after a radar detector mounting bracket similar to the ones pictured above. If anyone has something similar that they want to sell then let me know as I'm not paying $150+ for a new one.

Thanks. The round bar I want to mount it to has a 15mm diameter, but I can put some inner tube or something like that around the bar if the bracket is too big. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for a good one, just nowhere near $150 like the ones at Radar Direct.

youll be wanting to mount it to the cage-like top fairing support right?

Mate, you can make them for two fifths of fuckall, a trip to bunnings with a $20 note should see you with the bits you need, with enough change for some maccas on the way home. a couple hours fiddling, and youre done.
    make one yourself!

That's right. I've been to Bunnings, I've been to Blacks Fasteners and a few other places, and no one has anything even remotely similar to what I'm after. I've even taken some neatly drawn pictures of what I want, and I get looked at like I'm some crazy person followed by a firm "we don't sell that sort of thing".

I want a 2 piece ring clamp, sort of like rifle scope rings, only smaller so I can easily remove the mount if I want to. I would be very happy if you could tell me what I need, and I do have access to a welder and scrap bits of steel.

    pretty much what Hayd3n said.
I have found that going to places like bunnings and telling them you are building something for a bike immediately makes them think they cant help you.

Go for a wander through the shop, you will find what you need, a couple of small hoseclamps and a small section of 3mm steel would do, add a touch of black spray paint and voila!

a million different ways to do it!

$90 would be 2 and a half tanks of gas for the akaroa GP, dont waste it!!!

Of all the people I know, I'm probably the one with the least meachanical aptitude

And even I can make one. Just put pencil to paper and before you know it, you'll have a plan.
Those professional tech-mounts DO look the part tho. Just bloody expensive for what you're really buying.

I've seen some home made ... using a handlebar threaded mirror mount as the base.
