Recently registered member here and newly licensed motorcycle rider.

Been riding a 2008 Ninja 250 for just over a week and got my learner's a few weeks before that. Loving it so far, and the commute in to the city is a lot more enjoyable now than it was on train. Although I do miss the extra snoozing time.

But anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting some other like minded riders out there and going on a learner friendly group ride sometime.

There is another ride happening in November (yet to be posted) up North..
Did it last year, 26 attended and had a blast over the three days.
So its an option, see how you go.

Easy pace and i can ride out with you to the start the first time if wanted. We do an hours ride then some carpark stuff.

Both of those sounds great. I'll definitely be keen for the street skills stuff, learning how to stay alive is always a good thing. :P

The November ride sounds good also. Thanks guys, I'll be sure to look into both in the coming weeks as I get more and more familiar with my bike.

It was nice to meet you and your shiny l'il Kawasaki Ninja at the South Auckland Street Skills ride last night.

I don't know the motorcycle license process over here, as I got mine 12 years ago in the UK. How long do you have to be on your L plate for? Can you do a three day course to jump up to your full license quickly?

Hey mate. Haha, little indeed next to your big red machine. Was good meeting you too, was a lot o' fun.

I've gotta sit on my learners for six months total before sitting my restricted test. I have to be on that for 18 months or 12 months after sitting an approved defensive driving course before getting my full. Although I think some of that is changing slightly in October with the new laws coming in regarding licensing and the cc restriction I was talking to you about last night.

Never heard of a three day course over here. Is that how it is in the UK?

Hmm,

In the UK once you have your provisional (learners) license, you can pay to do a Direct Access course and get your Full unrestricted license. That's what I did. From nothing to full in a couple of months. You need to be 21 or older to do it.

I failed the test at the end of it the first time through, and had to redo it. That's good as I learnt from the tiny mistakes I made.
