New to bikes. Honda GB500TT info needed (clowndog)

    Hi All,

I bought a Honda GB500 December last year off a "mate's friend" who is yet to get me the ownership papers. *groan*

I bought it to learn about bikes with the intention of getting my license and learning to ride.

STUPID me I paid for it and got the bike, whilst believing my friend would be able to get me the ownership papers nice and quick.

It isn't currently registered. And I am having trouble finding the last registered owner. To make sure it is not stolen.

The bike has no plates. and no Vin number.. Just engine and chassis numbers.

I have been to the Police, the post shop, VTNZ, NZTA, and car jam. Trying to find out if someone can get the plate numbers from the chassis number.

Does anyone recognise this bike? and maybe know any of its previous owners?

I am trying to do the right thing. But the systems set in place in New Zealand are of no help what so ever.

Here are some pics and a link to a youtube walk around.

Yeah it is really nice! I love it! But the whole situation does make it bitter sweet. I think the next step is to grab a police declaration form... but thought I should try here first!

Good thinking (on both counts)...someone may know the bike and shed some light on its past for ya.

Cheers man, I think I have almost tried everything. It will be good to see this bike get sorted. I need to sell it to someone who is really into these. I couldn't bear to see it sit and not get used. But I must get it all legit, rather than passing on a problem to the next owner.

There use too be a time where vin plates weren't issued too bikes and they just used the frame number,
So VTNZ should be able too tell you what you need to know by the chassis number Unless it has never been on the road in NZ meaning it may be an imported bike that was never complied,VTNZ were able too tell me about a bike I revinned this year,

Your decleration of ownership you can do at the courthouse, and its simply really too say that you believe your the legal owner of the bike, the last owner doesn't need to sign anything, and "on the form it just said previous owner if known"

Thank you for your help! It must have been imported into NZ and never registered... VTNZ told me on Saturday they can now only search by VIN or PLATES, I told her that it was an old bike so didn't require a vin. But she wasn't very helpful.

I will see the responses to this thread before I get a declaration of ownership sorted.

Thank you for letting me know to go to the courthouse though! I didn't know that part.

Lets hope someone knows something. It is pretty unique being in such good condition, and having red painted front forks...

I haven't changed a thing on it except for cleaning it up a bit and giving her a new battery.

Form of statutory declaration for a motor vehicle

Finally got the form of statutory declaration for a motor vehicle / motorcycle / motorbike

It took a lot of ringing around. Finally got one from VTNZ who didn't know what I was talking about till they rang someone else.

Then they found the form online (perhaps their network) and printed it off for me.

I have attached it to this post for anyone else who has has issues. I am yet to take it in for re-registration. But will post how I go.

When filling out the form If you do not know the previous owner. (like in my case) Just write in "unknown".

I had to get a local justice of the peace to sign for me. ONLY sign the form when you meet with the justice of peace.
I met up with a friendly one in Grey lynn.
To find one for your area either use Yellow pages or google " Justice of the peace " followed by "your area"

Dress well. If you look dodgy, you probably won't get a signature. Take your drivers license too.

That's where I am at for now.

Cheers above for your help. I did call the courthouse but they said they couldn't help me. :S

Thanks man, best color combo i've seen on a GB in my opinion. I don't want to sell. Will probably get my learners on it first. But I need a new engine for my car. Beautiful bike though. No real reason to sell except I could use the money.
