I am a heavy 4x4 high up= bad handling but with heaps a grunt... were as you lack grunt but being a 2x4 and LOWERED at that.... = good handlingOriginally Posted by Kickaha

Hey D, this is an auto, seems to go OK, but we had one in here that had a faulty speed sensor, I've driven this one, its not too bad for a diesel 4WD I suppose, depends what I can get it for , I'm hoping $4K or underHow much did you pay for yours? The guy who owns it is supposedly a fussy bugger, ex aircraft technician apparently but just looked like another diesel under the bonnet to me.....
Oh thanks everyone for there input, is the Nissan Terrano the better pick for around that year? Apparently the earlier HiLux's are worth steering clear of, oh and never buy a vehicle starting with an "M" so no Mitsi's or Mazda![]()

Ill back up everything Motu said--As trucks go the terranno is good.
One thing to check --then if ya aint sure get someone else to check.--Around the rear seatbelt floor mount they rust. Its a know WOF issue and used to be really expensive to fix--as in around 2.5k
its cheaper now--around $400 to fix
motu covered off the other stuff but its a lot less common
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
How come its cheaper now Frosty?
Because the parts are now available to fix them, you can buy the panel required,or at least the panelbeater can.
The Pajero is a bloody good 4X4,the only thing that lets it down is the engine, petrol or diesel, and the only thing that lets the engine down is the owners poor maintenance,if you can find one with a guaranteed service history I'd only be worried, not very worried.....

Our latest mechanic is 5 years ex Miles Toyota, says dont get a Toyota before about 1996, theyre OK but do have some problems, he reeled off some faults but I wasnt really paying attention......![]()
paj's also have a weak gearbox. The problem with toyotas is they go forever, but parts are a mint when you need them.
Being someone who uses these for work, you hear about alot. A collegue in Cambridge has a 2001 Toyota Hilux which has just shat its gearbox. 260,000km ant bad but $3500 for repairs is.
We use Holden Rodeos at work ourselves and they are bloody brilliant offroad but i hate them on road.
Admittatly these are utes not 4x4's but the underpinnings are usually the same.
The real mystery is how come that fat bastard Hurley has never lost any weight.
crock a shit..... its a lack of knowledge Gav,maui rentals used to have 2.4's 500-600,000km out of them.... as for the 2.4TC well a stock one wasent the best set up, they need a biger bore exhust so as to keep the head temp down, they are knowen to damage heads other wise... mine was up to 200k and was sweet as.Originally Posted by gav
ps: people dont know how to look after them ... ie: oil at 5000k max, deisel gets past the rings and into the oil watering it down.... not good.

Don't say that! The early Pajero's used a Toyota trans....and we don't want to rubbish Toyota now do we? When I lost my overdrive I was worried (all those weak Mitsi trans stories) even after 3 flushes the oil looked like engine oil it was so dirty. All my trans experts said no worries, they never sell parts for these boxes, almost impossible to kill the Toyota trans - one more flush and it was ok.The only weak spot is the motor - 4D56 or 6G72/73Originally Posted by unhingedlizard
