agree 100% warmer, great roads only downside is having to go through ak to get anywhere, and you want to ride our loop, perhaps branch of for a fast ride to the top as well.
Don't judge me based upon your ignorance.

But the climate is worse than Chch. If its warm you are after then Nelson or the Far North are going to be your best bet - unless you go for Aussie of course
Don't go to Nelson, it's riddled with 'alternative life-stylers'.

But now I am thinking more along the lines of just buying a place up there, and keep this place for summer and fuck off for the winter. The world is my oyster.
I do stand to be corrected, I only heard it second hand, no direct experience. If so...sounds like a kick arse place to live...$50k for a house...I'd be mortgage free!

We where always going to go to Auckland. The Wife said we will put the house on the market in the spring time. Then the first quake came. We still put the house on the market. Sold it in 1 week and left Chch in December. Was back there last November alot more damage done in the area we lived in.
Now I can use my Gold Card for buses, boats and trains.

lived in CHCH once, for around three months back in the 80 s

Got the hell out, away from the smog, cold, white power gangs and all the other crap

Now have a property on top of the volcanic rim of banks peninsula,35 km from shaky town but another world

no frosts unless its along with snow,my own rainwater and self contained water and sewage system,so rates are low.We dont get rubbish collection either.Grow vegies all year round.

Great roads to ride outside my front door(except in winter when it freezes, but thats a good chance to strip the bikes and service them)

Fresh Air,hardly any neighbour issues unless you count the occasional lost sheep or wayward japanese walker(some are cute)

I feel sorry for the people of CHCH I really do,but so glad I made the decision to get the hell out all those years ago.

If i didnt live here it would be the Coromandel Peninsula

Maybe I should change my name to Peninsulaguy.

If you wanted to fade into the woodwork and ride awesome roads with spectacular scenery, West Coast of SI.....Nelson if you want the roads but a bit more night life, further north, maybe New Plymouth if you want roads and you are close(on a bike) to Aucks etc for the rat race fix

Where do you go, and why? Not Orklind. Probably not Welly.

Def not blenheim. Lived there for a couple of years and now know why a lot of travellers call it "planet blenheim". Very very weird place.

Lived in Welly for a year, ok if you want to partake in the rat race I guess. Lived in Invers for a couple of years. Nice place ruined by an archaic licensing trust. Visited Auckland once. Different country really, might as well have been in Hong Kong. Only I like HK.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Chch over the years, never liked it. The faux Englishness, the flatness, the grid pattern, the unkempt streets and general underlying feeling of violence. Lets face it though, the north island is full of cunts so that only leaves the mainland. To be honest Dunedin isn't a bad place. Sod all traffic, nice harbour, 15 minutes from the CBD and you are in the country. Not so much random violence, not so many cops on the road. Good beer. Nice roads surround town leading to some beautiful spots like Kaitangata and Waitahuna, ha ha. The students get a bad rap for setting fire to the ghetto but they keep the place young. Two downsides I guess, the first is that the city is now fucked financially due to the stadium debacle, and in winter it is not warm enough. I've often said that if the place was five degrees warmer all year round it would be great. But it isn't. You will need your concrete pills.

But hey, at least it isn't Hamilton.
