Where would you go if you were shifting from Christchurch?

Say you were moving out of fucked up cold poxy Christchurch. Say you had transferable skills, a reasonable asset base, no debt, and no ties to anywhere particularly. Say you were more inclined to stay in NZ than go elsewhere. Say you were utterly disinterested in working 70+ hours a week for your "career's" sake and it was all about having a reasonable lifestyle, work life balance with the balance skewed in favour of life.

Where do you go, and why? Not Orklind. Probably not Welly.

Me, I would suggest going South - I really liked living in Dunedin and in Southland

But the climate is worse than Chch. If its warm you are after then Nelson or the Far North are going to be your best bet - unless you go for Aussie of course

    Coromandel Peninsula.
Decent place and people, superb fishing and recreational activities with some nice towns not too far away. Whitianga would be rather pleasant. Also, the weather is better than oop norf.

Buller but invest in really good wet weather gear. The warm current, prevailing winds and high mountains make it a touch damp but also make for good scenery, warmer climate and winding roads.

I really liked the west coast of Norfland when I lived up there. Don't get the same "tourist pulse" on that side of the island.

Hawkes Bay is a cool place...anywhere around there would be more than suitable just on climate alone, but the ground does still shake from time to time.
Failing that, the far north...Cable Bay area...whenever we up that way, I always say ''I could live here''...the place is stunning.

Yup, i love the Hokianga too, bugger all to make a crust at but a stunning place to live. The other benefit up here is if it's wet on the West coast it's sunny on the East & vice versa. It was 23c at 4pm here yesterday. I have come to really like the Bay of Islands & surrounds now too, it's still a seasonal tourist economy but if you are time rich the opportunity's for fun are endless. Having said that if you like to have big city entertainment on your door step, you have to head down to Whangarei. I'm blatantly biased, I have come to love beaches & bush!
I have met at least a dozen people who have moved up here from ChCh in the last year so I guess the climate is a major drawcard.

Speaking of which, I have a house & business for sale.........

Well first, while your skills may be transferable, in my mind, you have to go where the work is, otherwise there is no moolah for the life bit...

So you'd see where the work takes you, but from my mind, living in the north, I might consider somewhere in the north of the South Island simply because I'd be able to explore the South Island a little more. Too far south gets fucken cold in winter (yeah yeah, I know what you lot are thinking), I'm a cold blooded mammal I am.

Not too concerned about that: I would be a good bet for someone to do locum or contract work or whatever: Ive got all the relevant lor society approvals etc. and I dont have to do private practice. Or I could find a job doing something else. Fluffer in a gay bar or something

other than motorcycling - what are your other interests.

For me it would be central North Island, good roads, lots of equestrian possibilities plus its close to the snow.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

Hawkes Bay gets my vote for the lifestyle. It gets a bit too hot there in summer sometimes but that's just an excuse to ride more.
