Where I've moved to in the western burbs you wouldn't even know there'd been any earthquakes, and the council are resealing roads that are million times better than what I was driving over in east chch, life is getting worse for our former neighbors now that the diggers are starting up at 7am demolishing empty houses.
If the big one hits, I doubt it would be any worse than what we've already had, unless you live right on top of the main divide
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

I think he's meaing in Chch not out with the interbred hillbillies because once you're west of Hagley park there's very little evidence of any earthquake, yeah there's a few buildings down but practically nothing compared to the CBD east
Depends on what you call the big one, and where it hits
AND this from someone in the Goone
thats due to the age of the area, shit I was talking of out west a chch is all old digs, like Grumps hide out, anyone remember the TV viewing of the house that lost its side and a kid had to clime out were his bed once was?

Between Papanui and the city boundary it was all infill housing built from around 1960 on...on good ground and at a time when we built sound housing. I remember the Eastern suburbs being built up too - we lived in Avonside. A lower quality of house on piss poor land.
The house where the kid fell out of bed when the side fell off is about 400m up the road from us...built in about 1925, demolished now.
Ours built in 1890 in wood is still standing.....and should do another 100 years now.

Yeah, meant Bishopdale, Bryndwr, Burnside. Basically nothing significant to see... some man hole covers higher than the road, but not much else. Bishopdale mall... I know the community centre will come down at some stage, but otherwise untouched.
I doubt the Alpine fault will give us much trouble in Chch. TBH I'd rather by here for that one... Wellington will cease to exist, as will Nelson and the central North Island. Perhaps Auckland won't be too much worse than we are now, but it's all guessing. All our old shit is gone now, the only question will be electricity supply as the Southern Lakes generation will be gone gone gone. Be interesting to see how Dunedin goes... I suspect it'll kill maybe up to a thousand there (mostly students), but still be quite livable. You've got to have a little bit of a laugh at people who're moving within NZ to escape quakes.
Having lived in a fair few places in NZ and visited everywhere else if I was in your position there would be 2 places that I would look seriously at
Geraldine - it really is beautiful and just big enough
Hawkes bay - best weather in the country and plenty to do
Neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnoscet
Most Christchurchians are fucking off to Queensland, aren't they? Buggered if I know why.........
If/when we move back, it'll probably be Northland, somewhere.
