By not speaking out and saying he did it ... or ... by not putting your hand up and saying "I did it" .... bit by bit ... again and again, you reduce yourself towards their level, each time you "get away with it". To the stage where you are no different from them. In your life you may not cause ... or allow ... children to die. But have you ever remained silent ... and got away with ... it. Such extreme comparrisons are not valid. In the majority of instances when people choose not to report minor transgressions, the consequence of those transgressions have often been considered to be minor by comparrison to the penalty for the transgression and Sensible people also understand that we all learn from our own mistakes at some point in time through hindsight and that being the case will take that into consideration when assessing whether they should report the incidents. It's called the application of common sense. Sensible people (with morals) do not apply that sort of rational to acts of murder.

Frankly, I consider that the suggestion that similarities exist and that anyone should be given a break because they don't understand the difference in consequences is to my mind as bad as the failure to report such terrible crimes.
