RG150 dies after a couple of seconds of running really well

I tried to uni the other day, and 50 meters down the road while idling at a traffic light she just dies as if the key was turned off.
Shes a bit temperamental when it's cold and has a bit of a funny idle anyway, so I kick a few time and she starts, sounds real healthy for 5 seconds and cuts out again, second attempt to start I get no response.
So I push her home and make the journey on a pushbike instead leaving her in the garage to think about what she's done.

This morning I had bit of a look, and there's plenty of spark, fuel, and oil, and there was brief life after a few kicks as per the previous story.
Noticed the dash lights pretty much disappear when the headlights go on, and the headlights are dim so I'm charging the battery to see if that makes a difference.
Then I'm assuming I should pull the carb off and replace the fuel filter, and check the oil pump while I'm at it.
Is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Where is there plenty of fuel ... in the tank ... ??? Check fuel is flowing thru the line to the carb.

Dash lights dimming indicates it may not be fully charging ... and more is taken out of the battery than put in. Then there is no power for the spark ... and stops. If a fully charged battery will allow it to run (for a bit more time) ... the charging system is the issue.

Try running with NO lights (yes I know the lights have to be on by law) and see if it makes a difference.

If you have a multimeter then check the battery voltage after it cuts out.

Cleaned carb and replaced its o-rings/gaskets and the o-rings for the oil pump which has stopped leaking now. Also cleaned the filters (inside the tank attached to the fuel tap) but everything was pretty clean to start with.Same story. Runs nicely for a short time and then dies. There's plenty in the tank, and plenty getting to the bowl which has a bunch of fuel in it directly after it dies, and since I've just cleaned the carb I'm starting to think it might be electrical. Not sure where to go next. Anything obvious I've missed? I'm leaning in the direction of the wiring loom which is pretty ratty and it wouldn't surprise me if there were loose wires I haven't found yet. It's not the battery, that has plenty of volts running or not running.

    Fuel tank vent blocked?

Sounds like a poked battery to me.

It may have some spark ... but check the charging system. It should run without a battery ...

And check the air filter is clean.

I fiddled with the mixture and idle, and replaced the plug which made the most difference and it appears to be happy.
About to go for a ride to test the theory!

    Victory!

It runs a bit like balls though, I tried setting idle/mixture as per the manual but it doesn't behave like it should.
I also couldn't figure out what the manual was talking about for measuring/setting the float.

Any carb tuning tips? Or should I just pay someone more knowledgable?

When chasing problem fixes ... it pays to test after only one change. You may find later ... you've fixed one problem, and created another ...
