I think its more to do with the tyres.... Steve Rapp is nearly 3 seconds faster on his AMA spec superbike

Thanks, that a good comparrison. I was wondering how the AMA times would compare when I was watching Free Practice.

I guess it shows proves that the CRTs haven't been overly impressive machines so far this year but also just how fast the top guys like Pedrosa really are.

It shows that they haven't got the rules right yet. It was a first stab and now they know that there's a serious difference between the prototypes and CRT's in the electronics.

It'll evolve. I really do hope they find a way to even things up without using a spec ECU and rev limit though.

From the comments Stoner has made the tyres are crap compared to last year - what's up with that?

    Stoner is over it

He was around when it was the golden times,so its understandable.

Colin Edwards comments at the pre race press conference today said a lot too.

It's Honda riders that are complaining, not just Stoner.

They don't like these tyres because they deform a lot more than last years. The problem with the old tyres was they were very rigid so they didn't squish down and move around a lot. That's great when you're on the edge of the tyre cos the bike feels more planted and solid. But those tyres were a bitch to warm up and it caused plenty of problems last year.

Now the tyres warm up quicker but they deform a lot, which is what has caused the chatter in the Honda's. Instead of the flex in frame and suspension doing the work the tyre is deforming more causing grip levels to change and making the bike chatter.

So Honda pretty much have to redesign their bike for the new tyre, whereas the other bikes have been able to cope without a redesign.

Steve Rapp qualified just over 1 second outside the 107%. But he's been continually improving so I'd say Race Direction would be pedantic wankers to not let him start. Wouldn't be good publicity for MotoGP in the States either.
