    Unrecoverable password

I am about to lose my password. I have no written record of it and my computer is playing up which means reloading the operating system.

Unlike most sites KB hasn't made provision for password recovery. If you want to change it while logged in you still have to provide the old one.

In the absence of any alternative I suppose I could sign in as a new member eg sonofangrybird or similar but I would lose my most cherished reputation points.

I would therefore be most grateful for any advice on the subject. With thanks in anticipation.

Send a message to the admin and ask him to reset your password to something you can remember. Easy really. So easy infact, here is his profile for you...

    Thanks gammaguy..
you are a mind reader too. I use Firefox and it has crossed my mind that if I can delete individual cookies perhaps I can save them too. If I knew how to do that I would probably also know how to install "non-stretching" drivers for my new Nvidia card and thus obviate the need for the cookie eating complete overhaul in the first place. :-).

No, there's no password recovery, only password reset.

    Two options.

PM either Mental Trousers (admin) or chanceyy (senior moderator) - both can reset your password to something simple which you can change later. Be patient - they're not on-line 24/7, particularly at weekends.

Or you can do it yourself. Log out, then follow the Lost Password instructions on the log-in page. You will be emailed a temporary password. If you don't see the email, check your spam box.

After 23 posts ... it wont be many. Hardly worth the worry.

    Loss of Reputation

    Hey EnZed.
Look no.. it isn't a concern as in teenage girl collecting Facebook friends. Her whole raison d'etre is based on that magic little number she can bandy around despite having "poached" most of her friends from the well-rounded bloke in the classroom.

I have already copped flak on another thread for my attention to detail. The reason I attend to the detail of reputation points is out of respect for the people who awarded them. When I lived my life at 90 miles an hour however I probably wouldn't even have noticed. I have slowed down a bit since discovering that nothing I accumulated at that speed actually "stuck."

Besides I am quite partial to the name angrybird.

Thanks for weighing in Virago. This was exactly what I was looking for as I hoped not to disturb a moderator if I could do the job myself. I did chase about the place looking for reset instructions but for the fact they were not where I expected to find them I did so without any high hopes.

I now see that if I was actually locked out then they would have appeared to me. My apologies to all.. I wasn't thinking as clearly as I might having just put a new PSU in my computer and with the subsequent graphics card issues was wondering what other conspiracies might be afoot. Being that kiwibiker members are such an approachable bunch I decided no harm in asking.

Funny thing but even when I am getting sh*t on this forum I can sense the good humour behind it. Before coming here I was "brutalised" in an American Fireblades forum after only my first post. OK I made light of it and gave a bit back but suffice to say that I am glad I live here.. (and if American g/f wants me back she can jump on a plane).

    both of them?

yerp. depends which browser you're using. i know nothing about M$hit. chroms and mozilla probably have some *save passwords for transfering/ synchronising* button. opera (wins.) has files you can copy out and into your next install. also i'm sure "wand" will have a transferr feature.

alternatively there is invariably a pre-compiled linux tool that will hack/reveal your passwords.

    but tutt-tutt. forgetting a password.
