Trade Me - waiting for payments?

Not a big user of the site but, I sold an item via auction on Thursday evening.
I sent the winning bidder an email with my contact details when the auction finished.
Still had not heard from said winner as of yesterday (Sunday) morning, so I text him.
Got a text back saying he was ''trying to organise a car with a tow bar''
No money has been forwarded so as far as I am concerned, the item is still not sold?
I text him again say that I have the option of relisting the item on Tuesday....no response.

Question is...how long is a reasonable wait for payment/collection?

If they have lots of good feedback etc a week for a hard to pick up item. If a week and still having problems send your details again and ask for full payment prior to collection.
If they have lots of bad feedback tell them you need to relist if not payed in full by Tuesday.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.

I say 7 days. Generally speaking peoples pay cycles are eitther weekly or biweekly so this gives the winning bidder a chance to pay.

If the bidder really wants it they would have paid something by now. If they have not already made some sort of payment arrangement, relist.
    Sounds like a time waster

Crap.....look at this, Im back on here!

Just ask the buyer to pay you by bank deposit and collect when they can, once you've got their money picking it up is their problem, unless you really want whatever it is gone quickly.

The problem with that is you end up providing free storage. Some people pay, and then still don't collect. Go figure. No the issue is you don't own the goods anymore, and have far less room to do anything.

At least if they don't pay, you still own it, and have more options, like re-listing.

Its quite common to put something along the lines of
"Contact within 1 day and payment within 3 days or will be relisted" at the top or bottom of a listing.

Then you know exactly where you stand.

    For next time maybe =]

Immediate payment (shows in your account the following morning) or neg feedback and relist.
"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

i sell a lot on Trade Me

    My payment terms are clear

Payment received in three working days or an arrangement for later payment made at my discretion

If not received, five working days notice given via the trade me system(apply for a refund of success fee)

If still not paid, negative feedback placed and blacklisted.

I get around one a month, which is not bad considering i sell around 100 items a month.

and I never text anyone,I prefer email as it gives a record of what is said.I know texts do too but I have had a couple in the past that reckoned they shared their phone with their five year old.Yeah right...
