I've done similar ... with similar results. Some aren't so lucky. I think you were. It just may not seem like it now.

And it usually does happen on familiar roads ... close to home.
Yeh it's lucky it was at low speed, guess there were a few factors at work, at higher speed then the focus IS 100% on riding... its even more annoying as I have to focus on driving at a high level at work, so should be 'second nature'..... Agreed part of it was slightly to high speed on entry,, and literally only a few Km's.. but enough to throw the line off with the 'action' that took focus away for that split second. I bloody knew it was going to happen as I felt the front wheel drop on the lip... and was going along for the ride.. er I mean slide!

Cheers Hawkeye, yeh bikes can be replaced, but MT's??? not so easy....
Poor Vicky following behind... must have been quite a sight for her, lol. Still I was thinking of buying another lid,, got a good reason now eh?

The feeling when your sitting there on the road is,
""How the fuck did that happen,"
the last few seconds go over and over in your head,
"fuck, I was only going 25kph????"
    Thankfully your ok,
It was 20 years between my dropping of a bike, embarrassing as fuck in front of others too.
    Know the feeling eh.
Hope you can get the mtoone back into her former glory ok , if not better than before.

Sorry to hear you came off. We saw you cruise through Martinborough and your bike sure did look pristine.

Was a bad day on the hill for crashes coming back. First righthander corner on Feathers side and the Ambulance was loading a downed rider. Then on the Welly side a serious car crash at the same time. Small hatchback was on it's roof and it had uprooted a concrete powerpole near the tearooms. Hope both were not as serious as they looked. Cops and firetrucks were already on scene so we didn't play rubberneckers.

Oh no - now I am nervous. It hasn't happened to me yet., but when does I will have to remind myself it happens to experienced riders too.

For a start, get rid of the "when it does" attitude.

Crashing your bike is not preordained.

Jeebus mate, glad you're okay and the MighTy will be fixable.
It is nice to know you're human, but don't do it too often, I need you to put me in my place

If I can help out in any way with the bike I will (ie test rides)

LMAO sadly there was no, how the fuck? It was, you fucking dumbarse!!
That 'feeling'?? oh yehhh gotta love it... at least as it was Vicki, I had someone to 'reassure' everything was OK. What was amazing and nice was 2 cars stopped and the drivers helped me get the MT out the ditch, which with 3 was not easy to do. I'd have been fucked on my own. No doubt there'll be a few aches tomorrow. And I will have a daylight inspection and a 'cry' ..... I can at least say at low speed, kevlar jeans worked fine, Ballistic nylon/leather jacket was undamaged but a small mark on the right side of the lid,, small as the visor hinge took the brunt of the scratch, but.. new lid it is, period.

No matter how you phrase it someone is going to read it and think your a smart arse.

The key is to get 98 percent of readers to think your a smart arse, and 2 percent to think, fuck yeah, what he said.

Cause these 2 percent will give you bling.

And no matter what anyone else says, its all about the bling.

Those that disagree are my bitches.

thats exactly why I gave minimal details... you can always rely on Kman to put everyone in their place....... The point I guess that I was making was, Bikes are completely unforgiving no matter how 'high' or protracted your experience level when you reach a point of non recovery... a car? brakes on and maybe a small dent at worst, but likely I'd have been able to stop, still on the road.....

Have no idea why you would think K/man would give you a bollocking, his message has always been that riders should take responsibility for their own fuck ups, which is exactly what you did in your OP !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Nearly had something like that happen to me. Was fourth or fifth in a group riding on Taotaoroa Rd south of Matamata, went into a left hander, not fast for the corner but went close to the side of the road at the apex, and there as about a 400 mm wide bit of slightly dropped seal at the edge of the road. It was maybe a 20mm drop max and I went right into it, it felt like a gigantic tramline as the bike wanted to go left off the road. I was lucky to keep the bike straight and come up out of it square on to where the dropped seal ended. Bit of a sphincter testing moment. Since then I've been a little more circumspect in how much I clear the side of the road by, even more so on back country roads. It only takes one seconds drop off in concentration and you're in the brown smelly stuff (literally and figuratively).
