Silk Riders Presentation Sawyers/Motorad Wednesday 10 August

Brendan from Sawyers has just rung me and asked that I extend an invitation to those on KiwiBiker that would like to hear him do a presentation on his Silk Riders tour that he did recently with Gareth Morgan and others.

The plan is to meet at Sawyers/Motorad after they close at 5.30pm on Wednesday 10 August with the aim of him kicking off his presentation about 6pm.

Could be a good crowd there as other groups have been invited too. See you there.
    Cheers

Do we need to rsvp Merv? I can imagine it would be a popular event. I can't wait to hear something more exciting than those boring columns Gareth Morgan has been writing - full of political crap about the countries they travel through instead of all the interesting things they must have encountered. They should take a leaf out of Chris Boyle's book - his trip on the Contal made for much more interesting reading!

Brendan never mentioned any need to RSVP so I guess he figures we can all just fit in there. The other group we ride with (LB's e-riders) has been invited and so has the Ducati club I understand so could be a good turnout. I am sure Brendan will concentrate on the ride element of the trip more so than the political stuff Gareth talked about. I doubt Gareth will be there as me and LB spotted him on the street a couple of weeks back and basically he said he was too busy and get Brendan to do it.

The columns that Gareth has been writing are anything but boring (You must be thinking of the money ones). The columns have been appearing in the papers (DomPost on Saturday nights, and others) plus on his website http://www.silkriders.com/

(Don't read them if you get jealous easily )
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

It would be nice to hear about the actual ride. Is the venue Motorad? If so, they'll be buggered for space if more than 30 folk turn up.

The venue will be either Motorad or Sawyers, depending on which will work best. There's standing room for quite a few when you think about it.

E-riders and the Ducati Club have been invited, but Brendan's happy for any interested motorcyclists to come along. From those I've been talking with, I think there'll be a good turnout.

    Should be a good night.

Count us in then, we'll have to get away from Levin early to be there in time.

Pete, were you reading the same columns I was? They WERE boring - heaps about the political unrest and the governing parties in each country. And very little mention of the other riders on the trip. We wondered if he had sold the rights to a motorcycle magazine and so only gave the boring bits to the DomPost!

We'll be there, we're heading down after lunch so we can do a tour of the bike shops before it starts. Then a tasty dinner and home again!

We could romp off for a quick curry or something afterwards?

Yes it was a great story and Brendan gave us a good presentation plus put on the usual hospitality. Thanks to Brendan and everyone at Sawyers/Motorad for the evening.

Turnout must have been close on 100 by the time the show got underway.

As for the curry afterwards, though I mentioned it to Hitcher a couple of times it seemed to evaporate.
    Cheers

Yeah we scurried off for a chinese round the corner, but it was a bit average.

Good presentation. Think you have to be well heeled/retired to manage 3 months away & not earning. And the numbers tonight are. . .
