AND ... his father was there to see him play.

I'm reminded of a certain young All Black winger who would be very grateful that his father was there to see him play in their Junior World Series final 3 or 4 years back. These opportunities should be taken when presented as you never know what's around the corner.

They tried that once ... then they got invited to a war.

But the Armed Forces, with their ability to be rapidly deployed ... is the most effective, trained, Civil Defence force we have in this country.

    Exactly.
What was the point in our troops fighting overseas anyway if not to defend against moments like this being ruined.

JK should go to the game. Let the minister of defence go to this funeral. As for Maki's example, mate using your maths JK should turn up at the hospital when someone looses a toe. I mean that's 1/100th of a person.

Prime Ministers should not be required to attend dead defense force. Not unless they are getting medals for something at the same time.
Praise the living, morn the dead. Not the other way around.

    But....everyone seems to like him.

Tells you a lot about the NZ public........
    No says more about you.

Don't make this about John Key or defence policy, or whatever; this is about Rory & Pralli. Two guys who gave everything, doing a job they believed in. The country & the NZDF honours their sacrifice. I have no doubt that there will be plenty of people that they respected far more than the PM who will be present at the funeral.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.
