Before tax, working a 40 hour week at minimum wage is 540$.

Why in the right mind is she getting almost 200$ more than a person that works a 40 hour week at minimum wage. Oh yea, I remember now, too many

Just to earn that kind of $, one would have to work 8 hour days for pretty much the entire week. When will people learn, if you can't afford kids don't fucking have them.

I know they factor in mortgages, kids, medical expenses (maybe you have to apply for these? I did)
And the weekly living allowance vaies from area to area (I think) so an Auckland resident will get more than an Apiti resident, in theory.

It's all on the piss if you ask me, I was a high risk person (even got that in writing ) for doing something stupid
(suicide or something else entirely silly), was paying rent, attempting to eat (fortunately my mind set made that cheap) and play with bikes (seems therapeutic for me) and I got less than a younger person living at home

    I don't get it.
believe me I don't get it either. They wanted you to move back in with your parents?

but this shows where the reform needs to come from. Clear and understandable limits need to be set as to what one can expect in the various moments one needs to apply for benefts. And these limits need to be available to everyone. No arbitrary judging by some caseworker who rarely sees the light of day.

The issue is not that if she can (or cant) afford them ... it's whether or not we can afford the kids she (and others like her) can have. She has them, we pay for them.

    there is no arbitrary judgement.
    being unemployed pays 180$/week
accomodation allowances are available, as mashy said, depends where you live. downtown auckland about 140$, out manukau heads, about 30$/ week. you can receive this allowance even if you're not "on a benny" - low income, rent too expensive etc
"food cards" can be loaded with 100 odd $ up to four times a year, then you fill out some other paperwork and get onto a "high-needs" programme, which buys your groceries (and booze, smokes etc) every week.

being a fucking mattress, i think it's 360 for the first kid (plus whatever other allowances) then 110 per kid after that.

go to the WINZ website and do one of their "what's my entitlement" quizzes.

basically, if you have a penis, you're unlikely to get much out of the ministry of "social development" .

so it is arbitrary, there is no way anyone living unemployed in auckland can live of 180$ (or anywhere else in NZ). the housing benefit makes no sense eiher as it should depend on income/rent ratio not the area one lives.

as for the mattress, are you speaking only of single mothers never married, or single mothers divorced or single mothers never married but alas not in a relationship any more? Just curious. And does the allowance for kids take child support into account? and what about the married mattrasses that get the family something or other tax benefit.....it seems childless, working females don't have much luck with the msd either.

    1) yes it's very fucking difficult to live on 180$/week.
    2) ever wondered about the crime rate? why these people might feel the need to steal radios, sell drugs?
3)no. any mothers. if they go to WINZ for a handout, they get a handout.
    4) child support is demanded by the ministry of "justice" it is completely separate to any "benefits" she's "entitled" to. (and really, just to punish you for having a penis)
    5) the "working for families" tax credits can apply to men and women, but more likely women (blame shipley or clarke or that new fat bitch... paula benefit)

    6) don't like it?
    don't forget to vote.

Now I'm feeling bad enough drinking my instant coffee during my lunch hour. I might pledge to give up my instant coffee and put that money towards more worthy causes as giving more to the poor and helping people like this afford to get out of Cambridge.

The taxpayer has to support the labour voters somehow.

You mean the same Study grants Paula used to "better herself", and was then instrumental in getting abolished..........good enough for her, but fuck everyone else. Sorta sums up the attitude of this mob in charge......
