GSXR K7 keys?

Hi, I'm having trouble identifying the true nature of the mysterious GSXR K7 key.
According to Coleman Suzuki, the key is chipped, and to cut another one, I'd have to order a blank chip key in, get it cut and programmed.

All is good and well, but the cost came to an exuberant amount:
$99 for the blank key from Suzuki
$25 to cut
$40 to program


Could somebody verify this? Is the cost pretty much standard for this kind of service?

Well, the slightly confusing thing is that forum peeps all over the place are saying they've been able to order from Ebay, $10 blank and get it cut for $5 and that worked.
On the same model bike.

Has anyone tried this?
I'm all for supporting local bike shops, but paying $150 premium for a spare key would be absurd.

That seems very cheap for a chipped key.... Try one for a Holden....

but hey. at least criminals could never steal your bike eh.

sounds about right. plenty of small keyshops around that MIGHT be able to do one cheaper. get a couple at once. holden/ford transponder keys about 300$ to replace. code hopping goodness.
better. replace the ign barrel with a flick switch.

Different spec bike in different markets? It does seem cheap for a chipped key.

Do you need a key? if so any price is a good price innit? just be happy your bike isn't built by mercedes.

Well, As it turned out. My bike is not chipped.
So I'll just gonna get a normal key cut for $10 Incl blank key.

Just saved myself a good $150

Yip its only the 2008 + models IE K8 and above that are chipped and cost what you were qouted, you may have a registered 2008 bike but your bike the k7 model is the 2007 model and is not chipped.

The cost of the blank key is what suzuki charge, be it in Napier or Auckland (i rang both) they were $99 for a blank key. i found that out myself in May when i lost one of mine.
