Rest in pieces video camera, rest in many, many! pieces (DAMNIT!)

guess what decided to "disengage" from the bike on the way home last night

    bloody pot holes!

I was coming onto the motorway from the merge road off main north & marshlands when I hit, what can only be described as, the mother of all pot hole/seams on the road (plus I had been out to brighton-pot hole central in CHCH)...big jolt to the bike, then something hit me in the visor!
....just as I thought "hay!...isn't that my security stay for my....CAMERA!!"...the camera itself wiped off the bike and proceeded to bounce down the road behind me

I stopped (rather ungracefully due to traffic & having to pull onto the grass medium) and turned around (turned lights down to park/dim and put the indicator on)...drove back some 3meters away from the edge of the road just in time to see the huge Z fuel tanker truck turn my camera into...well...a waffer!

Thought I might be able to get the 8gig highspeed SD card from it or maybe the really expensive rechargable batterys from what was left...but it was just too damn dangerous with the amount of traffic and the posistion I would have to put myself & the bike in...so had to ride away and resign to the fact that it must be sacrificed to the road crushing gods

Rest in pieces little Tachyon XC....you did well for over 3yrs

...anyone got any cheap camera recommendations? (Not a gopro tho...WAY to expensive, Im thinking of a Kodak ZX1 etc)

Ride safe KBers...and watch for pot holes etc lol

Maybe the camera fell into the pot hole and it's now filled?

    Gopro is only $400 ish?

I had a similar thing happen with a camera earlier on inthe year - the top of the fecking sticky pad holding the mount to my helmet delaminated at 120k and bounced the camera down the road! (the bottom of the sticky pad is still stuck to the helmet)
I was luckier - there was no traffic (country road), and I recovered (most) of the bits, but the recording it was doing at the time wasn't playable. Funny thing is, I was just thinking about a safety lanyard to the camera in case such a thing happened.....$280 for a weeks use......

..yeah?...great!...you can explain the necessity of a $400 camera to my missus and let me know how you get on....(It will NOT be pritty!)

Its just a tad too costly for my needs mate, but they are great cameras! (I just want a safety cam on the bike at all times...cameras don't lie!)

You could always tell her, that it could double for weekend porn shoots, and if she is just a little bit adveturous she will might jump at the idea. Then post the footage on here

I remember seeing some tiny video cameras that were mentioned in another thread here a while ago that were designed to fit on RC aircraft. There were some on Trademe for a reasonable price, and the video quality was excellent for the money.

PM your address and I'll send you a temporary replacement. It's approx 60 x 20 x 25mm and you can mount it in or on your helmet with a bit of velcro. Rechargeable battery takes mini SD up to 8GB and runs for about half an hour (sometimes) when fully charged. They are sold on tardme for anywhere between $25 and $40 (I got 10 for $130 from China). They are unreliable as hell but if you feel like you can handle erratic operation...

    Same same.
