Burt Munro Challenge, 21-25 November 2012

My husband and l are going down Sth for the Burt Munroe 5 day Challenge and was wondering who else is going to it this year?.
This is our 1st time and we have both been looking forward to it all year.
We hoping that the weather will be fine so that we can enjoy our experience at attending so many different Motorcycling events over the 5 days.
We are leaving this Saturday as we are doing some sight seeing on our way down before arriving in Invercargill on the 21st.

I'm going, with the brother and a couple of mates. I've been down for all but the first one and last year, it's more an excuse for a ride than anything else but I do enjoy watching the races.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of time for some diversions, I can recommend TeAnau-Milford.

Excellent news, come into the shop (Southland Honda) and say hi. We are running a track day on the 21st at Teretonga if you are keen to have a blast around, even if you can only get out there at lunch time pm me and let me know and I will leave a space open for you. Aaron Slight will be helping out with the coaching.
As Ocean1 says, you really have to make Milford a must see, give yourself a day and if you can stay the night in there, its expensive but probably the best part of NZ. If you want some local tips on dining etc let me know.

Is that underwater viewing tunnel thing still there? If so I'll plan a bit of time there.

Otherwise it'll be touch and go, last time I actually got off the bike there the sandflies bloody near had me away so they did.

...and 'hoping' about the weather down there is pointless...just be prepared for all weather conditions...often all of them on the same day, repeated twice...

Yep, be prepared for all weather. Wind down this way at this time of year is usually fairly gusty. Dont forget to take a ride through the Catlins.

    Thumbs up

Well l have finally arrived back home from our 2 1/2 week holiday down South attending the Burt Munro Challenge for the very 1st time and Wow what an excellent time that was had. We managed to do around 3800 k's all up and who said that you can't get reasonable weather down South.

Highlight of the trip was: Mount Cook on a crystal clear day, Glenorchy, Puzzle house in Wanaka, Mandeville Vintage Aircraft Restoration & Museum, Bill Richardson's Truck Museum in Invercargill, Hayes Hardware & Burt Munro display, Olverton Historic Home in Dunedin, & the Baby Seals at Ohau Point Waterfall Kaikorua, and the visit to the new Highland Park Raceway in Cromwell.

The only time we pulled out our wet weather gear was at the Beach Races on Friday afternoon.
Met heaps of great people along the way and visited some great places and towns.
Huge Thumbs up to those people who helped in whatever way to make The Burt Munro Challenge a very memorable event.

I hope that those of you who also went down for it enjoyed it as much as l did.

Looking forward to doing it all again in the near future.
    6 Race event over 5 days...........Awesome.
