My guess would be alcohol and thc, knowing the area.

Is that modern speak for possessed? Perhaps they should send him a priest to perform an exorcism.

That teachers are an honoured a trusted profession, the very things that attracts these losers to the profession as a "safe" place to hide with plenty of potential victims.
The trap is a bit like a couple of kids want to go camping or stay away overnight but it will be OK because even though no parents will be present a responsible adult will be there in the form of a teacher.
Yeah the parents fucked up and most of them will be beating themselves up about it.

He obviously felt so bad about it that he still continued to do it, obviously it didn't eat him up as much as he claims. I'm sorry? I get the impression he's only sorry that he's been caught and had his name and face plastered all through the newspaper and all over television.

Perhaps it is an illness/disorder. But I don't/won't ever believe that there is any amount of treatment, medication, or psychology that can fix someone so sick.

    One word.... Bullet.

The forceful tone of his voice during the teary apology, proclaiming that he was NOT a monster, smacks of an incredible arrogance.

Oh well, he's got some 'fun' to look forward to.

One of the local parents was on TV last night. He asked the reporter if she would trust her children with a deputy principal? She said "Yes". As would I.

Paedophiles pick out the lonely and the vulnerable and it appears there were plenty of kids at this school with dysfunctional homelives. Parents absent, parents who don't care, parents drunk and drugged up. Its no surprise kids responded to kindness from a likeable respected teacher.

What annoys me is the immediate focus of blame on the school principal and the board of trustees. The primary offender here is Parker, noone else.

Ok, having got that off my chest I agree there are some hard questions to be asked. The police wrote to the principal saying it was inappropriate for Parker to have children staying at his home overnight. Its possible the board of trustees never knew of the letter.

I hate the word "inappropriate" which is bandied around these days to the extent its meaningless. How about "wrong". Its wrong to have kids sleeping at this man's house.

If I was the principal who got the letter and no other information, and the teacher was widely liked, and if I was a bit soft and ineffective (known principals like that), then I'd assume the letter was a general overreaction. I'd know sleepovers might not be a good look in cities but at this small school its just a dedicated teacher extending pastoral care. Put the letter aside and think about it...until its forgotten.

You make a good point. It is prudent at the least and necessary at best to ensure you are not allowing the situation to occur at all. For everyone's protection an adult should not be alone in charge of other people's children, esp in this setting.

With the problem of attracting male teachers into Early Childhood Teaching it should be obvious that having sleep overs with only one adult present is a recipe for trouble.

i know NZ's adversarial court system generally promotes "punishment" over "rehabilitation", but this last clown (stuart murray) had his "due" "legal" punishment and you voters are still whining about him. so what god "punishing" this guy?, for infringing against yer legislation?

i'd spare a bullet for him. personally i reckon they should be removed from the gene pool, but that's not "justice" according to nz's "justice" system.

that's not entirely true. it is a very close community. while there are bad apples, there always are, but most of these people are honest folk.
MOST parents want to trust the people they shelve their children with for 40 hours a week.
MOST teachers/principals/scout leaders etc are decent men. let's not get out the torches and pitchforks just yet ehh...
