Kinky is using a feather. Perverted is using the whole chicken
My neighbours had a thumbed cat. Polydactyl they're called. They used to be popular on ships I believe cause they fell overboard less. Or something.
Gave it away they did. Could have given it to me...

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pal. I'm already dreading the day when DMC/Tom Drooley can no longer hop up on the fences to come down to spend the day with us.
I've been having a lot of success with convincing Tommy that a lap (with foam cushion and towel because he's a big boy and needs the extra support) is an appropriate place for a nap. Sometimes I have to entice him up with a treat, but other times he'll sit and look at me like he's thinking "why don't you sit down, get the cushion, and let me jump up and go to sleep?"
I did a few cell phone photos yesterday when he was napping, they don't do justice to his glory.

The arms on the recliner chair are about 22-23" apart, and he has to curve his back a bit to get his head and butt between them. I need a bigger foam cushion as he'll overhang the edges sometimes.
No, I'm not strangling him in some of those photos (and I don't know why he looks so greasy, I guess it is just the shine from his black fur). An interesting thing to me is that he very much likes having a pillow for his head, normally my fingers/hand/wrist/fore arm, whatever is closest. He'll also stick his nose under my hand so he can have his face cupped lightly while he sleeps. Greg told me he's had a few cats that were like that, and they were all males too.
I'll often get a quick chin bump from him when he gets up on my lap before he settles down, one hirsute visage to another.
Unfortunately, while Tommy is a bully to smaller cats, there's a tom a few doors over that is bigger than he is that has been coming around and putting Tommy on guard. We'll hear a yowling from the back yard and I'll find Tommy and Hamilton having a stare-off. Tommy doesn't back down until I come out, and then he'll turn and do an extremely slow walk away towards me with a stop for a quick lick now and then, to show that he's not running away. Today they were about 3 feet apart when I went out, but so far there's been no violence. I think that neither cat really wants to get physical as Tommy is a bit over 17 pounds and Hamilton (a very attractive cream/orange short hair with blue eyes) is probably a couple pounds heavier and much more burly.
So letting the cat in and keeping him in as long as possible during the day (before he goes home after our supper) seems like the best plan for reducing bloodshed. Unfortunately, once he's asleep on my lap I feel obligated to let him sleep until he's ready to get up, which may be 3+ hours. But being a cat mattress is a better retirement past time than some things I can think of though it makes it difficult to get anything else done.
cheers,
Michael
As some of you know, we breed Burmese...Last spring, we couldn't get anything pregnant - weird weather - so this year when a girl called, it was straight to the stud. Hence the fact we have four litters at present. Two lots of two, 10 kits in each pack. Luckily there'a about 6 weeks between the two lots so it's manageable. Most of the older lot are sold too so it's just the last few weeks rearing now for them.
However...Burmese are intelligent. Too damm intelligent. At the moment it's like having an Outward Bound course in our lounge and kitchen. They're going for runs up the passage, climbing and abseiling off anything that stands still. Playing ball games incessantly. Developing teamwork too. They realised there was a gap behind the stove so teamed up to move a half full waterbottle that was in the way. Then sent in a 4 kit exploration team while the others stood around and watched. Led by the two blues of course - natural ringleaders.
They've just realised the shouty girl up the other end of the passage has been moved so I'm expecting they'll move onto advanced stair climbing followed by the "look at me I can fly " module based off the upstairs landing.
It's fun if you can take the pressure...
Cool!
We used to have a seal point Burmese and they do like to climb... anything. No fear whatsoever but there is always a blank look when they get to the top of something and then seem to go "oh fuck!" wondering how to get back down.
Hope you survive this season Mr Grumph!

Surviving with relatively few wounds so far...The one seal boy in this lot thinks humans are made for his climbing pleasure. If I'm working at the kitchen bench and feel a kitten scaling my legs, I know just who it is.
The blank look once a peak is climbed is simply the search for somewhere higher to move on to. A couple of our girls - when they don't have kittens - have an evening workout session where they leap from door - top to shelves to pelmets to anything high enough to be fun. For them....
