    Cold Kiwi hotting up?

Hmmm.... Should one be worried about volcano's threatening the Cold Kiwi this year?

Perhaps a heavy duty tent is required?

In 1996 when Ruapehu erupted a lot of ash went west and the Cold Kiwi when on the summit of the Desert Road in those days.
there was a bit of ash around on the scrub which if it was heavy enough would've caused problems.
This was one of the main reaons they moved to a new site on the south side of the mountain, the eruption didn't stick around till Kiwi time though.
The new site is way south of this eruption, that was ruapehu this is tongariro, coupled with the rally is not in the mountainside scrub, which caught the ash, instead on grazed farm land there wont be a problem, unless maybe taupo goes up then there will be no North Island.

That and it will have less people living in fewer places and a few new holes, erm, recreation activity opportunities for development. ie once it cools down and the crater fills in I'd suggest you grab some land on the shore before the trees grow back and prices go nuts......
