HDDs HDDs everywhere, not a single bloody one to suit!

I've got HDD's all over this place, IDE's, SATA's, 3.5", 2.5" all sorts of sizes but do you think I can find a spare one of the right size??? haha yea wouldn't that be that'd be convenient. So now I'm stuck trying to find someone who has a spare HDD of the right size to borrow... what a hassle

Stick them all in your computer and use the disc management function "spanned volume" if you need to create a single large capacity drive temporarily. That's in Windows. Probably can do it in other OSes but fucked if I know how

I need one HDD 500GB or bigger so I can backup to replace the main drive... I must have like 10-15 HDD's floating round spare of all different types but not one larger than 250GB... agh why must this be so hard, stupid "5-minute" jobs

I'm planning at-least 4TB (2x2TB) in a RAID ext case but thats on hold till I gots the moneys which is a shame I don't have it now as that would free up the 1.5TB it'd be replacing but that setup isn't cheap & I'm not rollin in moneys so she'll hold till I can afford & I'll continue my search

If you're running Windows then you could use a Robocopy script instead of RAID1 as that will be safer if you accidentally delete or corrupt something.

RAID is overrated for home use unless you need your computer to be running 24x7 or after slightly improved read times.
RAID gets expensive when you have lots of data (i.e. 1+TB) and you end up paying twice for your storage whether you want it to be redundant or not. These days I just use a backup app (DeltaCopy) which copies my photos, docs and HD video camera footage to another drive once a week. I don't care about my movies, mp3's or games as I can just download them again. The good thing is you can just span all those unused drives together to make a backup volume instead of having to fork out for a duplicate drive.

Oops disregard then. Actually I had a similar problem during a recent drive upgrade/reshuffle. Ended up ghosting and having to copy bits and pieces onto various PCs/drives to free up the drive I needed.

You will double your chance of failure. Unless you have speed factors such as CAD I wouldn't recommend it (unless you know what you're doing of course).

Backups will be even more crucial.

If you are replacing your main drive ... you must have one newer larger drive. Just image the current drive to the new one ...

Never had much success with Robocopy but Teracopy (free) is very good.
