Starter problem on 1988 Kawaski GPX400

Hi all.
Would like a bit of info on this listing http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=506490246 is it worth taking a risk to try to repair? Apparently the starter mech on the secondary shaft is the problem. Talked to Kawasaki in Auckland and they were unsure if they would be able to source parts for it. Any ideas of whether parts could be sourced from anywhere and has anyone had any experience with this problem on their GPX? Thanks for any info in advance.

The overseas parts microfiche for that model isn't showing those parts as being discontinued so they should be readily available.
