    Thanks Guys

Just wanted to say thanks to CK, Aff_man, and Andrew for accompanying me up to Uretiti today.

As usual I had no idea where this place was, just agreed to go up and see some mates camping up there.

The day was beautiful, the roads good and the company fine. Unfortunately Andrew had a mechanical failure while flying along just out of Mangawhai. so we were forced to camp out at the cafe eating and drinking while awaiting the AA.

Met up with a fellow biker John on a flash GSXR just like CK's. He joined us on our ride and the ride back home. Hope he will join us again and i passed on a card for the site. Luckily for Andrew his boss has a holiday home nearby and he gave him a ride back to the big smoke. Too bad Andrew missed the beach, very nice but despite the heat no one was game for a swim.

Enjoyed myself but glad I passed on staying the night. This guy can't do without his creature comforts and creature free house.

Thanks again for the escort guys.

It isn't on any map I've seen, which is why I was so gateful for the escort. :bigthumb:

It is about twenty minutes north east of Waipu Cove. At least you go through Waipu and past the turn off for Waipu Cove.

Aff_man said it was a nudist beach but didn't see any, however as the boys had to be back by six we didn't have time to thoroughly investigate the place either.

Next time we will have venture further north as it is all new territory for this city boy. I'm sure it is a great place once all the tourist go home.

That description more closely describes Ruakaka. I'm looking at the NZ Atlas here & there's no such place as "Uretiti" or anything even remotely similar, and this Atlas shows everything!

Well, I guess Uretiti really does exist

    3 January 2004

There is still no sign of a man missing in the Waimakariri River.

The man was one of five Asians who got into trouble swimming in the river just north of Christchurch late yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile a teenager was found dead on Uretiti Beach south of Whangarei last night after he fell from a canoe and hit his head.

A twenty-year-old man who drowned in a lake in a deep quarry adjoining Lake Pupuke on Auckland's North Shore on New Year's Day has been identified as Sione Moala, of Onehunga.

It would appear that it is a nudist beach "38kms south of Whangarei and 5km north of Waipu" on Bream Bay.

http://www.geocities.com/yolonz/nfn/uretiti.htm - I love how they describe themselves as people "with a passing interest in skinny dipping".
And it's also interesting that the Waipu golf course "extends down to the dunes of Uretiti Beach and boasts magnificent views of the bay and offshore islands."

My throttle cable came loose yesterday on a ride to Mangawhai. I tried to fix it and even got the AA involved. The best the AA could come up with was to put the bike in storage until I could find a replacement plastic throttle sleeve.

CK didn't have the passenger seat on the back of his GSXR. BB didn't have any passenger seat foot pegs. Affman didn't have a license which could take passengers. Both my parents were on holiday and out of town for the day. The only way I could get home was to get hold of my boss who has a holiday batch 15mins away. That was the absolute last option for me, seeing my boss while I'm at the peak of my holiday .

I didn't exactly enjoy the ride back home. Although I am very grateful to him for picking me up at the drop of a hat. When Rosco (my boss) rescued me at Mangawhai he was in a good mood. However that didn't last long cos the traffic was banked up from North of Puhoi all the way to Orewa.

We were stuck in this gridlock traffic for a good hour. If anybody knows Rosco, then they'll be able to confirm that he gets effected my road rage easily. This just turned him ape shit and being in the car I had nowhere to run. We must have gone past at least 3 crashes, and each time we passed a crash scene he kept drumming into me the importance of going on a handling skills course.

I was extrememly grateful for my boss to come and rescue me. When asked how I could really say thankyou for taking me back he replied. - "Make sure you get booked back into that course, and do it now!!"

That was just a really ironic day. The last person I wanted to see in the whole world took me back home that day. Yet among all he seems to be most concerend about my welfare, even more so than my olds!!

Thanks CK, BB, and Affman for your support that day - you guys were great. A special thanks also to BB and CK for offering to take me back up to Mangawhai now that I have the replacement part.

I learned two imortant lessons that day:

    1) Some people have funny ways of showing that they care and actually care a lot more than you think.

    2) Kiwibiker's look after each other!

We also saw an English couple who were touring around NZ. They were riding a couple of old Triumphs, one of which had a sidecar for their son!!
