Smoking is healthier than same-sex marriage

.......according to the Australian Christian Lobby.
    ACL leader Jim Wallace says:

"I think we're going to owe smokers a big apology when the homosexual community's own statistics for its health - which it presents when it wants more money for health - are that it has higher rates of drug-taking, of suicide, it has the life of a male reduced by up to 20 years," he told the audience.

"The life of smokers is reduced by something like seven to 10 years and yet we tell all our kids at school they shouldn't smoke."

Assuming what he says about the 20 year reduction in lifespan is true (I have seen articles/stats that show very poor health outcomes for homosexual males) where does that leave us - lay off the smokers, move to reduce and evetually ban homosexual males, put a levy on vaseline?
    Discuss.

By my reckoning, as a smoker, if i were to prefer dipping my cracker in the chutney jar rather than the honey pot I would have died 2 years ago. Phew!!

    Have since found this:
"A new study which analyzed tens of thousands of gay obituaries and compared them with AIDS deaths data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), has shown that the life expectancy for homosexuals is about twenty years shorter than that of the general public. The study, entitled “Gay obituaries closely track officially reported deaths from AIDS”, has been published in Psychological Reports (2005;96:693-697)."
    http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/arc...5/jun/05060606

    And this:
"In our paper, we demonstrated that in a major Canadian centre, life expectancy at age 20 years for gay and bisexual men is 8 to 21 years less than for all men. If the same pattern of mortality continued, we estimated that nearly half of gay and bisexual men currently aged 20 years would not reach their 65th birthday. "

So it appears that the (bigoted, I'm sure) bugger may be correct.

Simple, gays are shunned. They worry about coming out to family/friends, get insulted, dilemmas when trying to find something to wear. Its a stressful life. If we shun the smokers enough, we can surely decrease their lifespans too...

Pretty much sums it up - just being gay in todays society is stress enough let alone getting 'married'.

I think you'll find Maori life expectancies are lower than Euros...what's your point?

Being gay isn't a behaviour like smoking.

Are you confused or just being facetious?

No. But I'm not so liberal that I wont accept that certain lifestyles may lead to unwanted outcomes if that is what the facts show.
If I had found an article saying the reverse was true I would have posted it and asked peoples opinions on that.

Whose being precious? If you talk shit expect to be called.

All the research shows that gay people are as gay as a Maori is Maori. Fuck all to do with lifestyle, fuck all to do with choice.

Smokers exercise a choice and should be prepared to deal with the consequences of that choice. Suck it up - excuse the pun

Fucken hell the facts stand until you provide some sort of refutation - call me on them.
And some links to research comparing gay and Maori would be good.
Did you miss this bit "If I had found an article saying the reverse was true I would have posted it and asked peoples opinions on that."
I found what I thought was an interesting and amusing viewpoint, and suggested people might like to discuss it.
I was actually hoping for more comments/discussion of the type bogan offered rather than the "how dare you say anything that could possibly be construed as anti-gay" crap that you have offered.

Crap. You posted "christian" propaganda suggesting that (like smoking) homosexuality is both a social problem and a choice. And, it was quite obvious from your subsequent posts that it's a viewpoint your sympathetic to. Probably coz you're a bit dense.

Comprehension fail on your part re the Maori analogy - based on heredity (the biology of sexual orientation).
