I have really noticed a huge change in stigma over tattoo's in the last 5 year period, there a lot more socially accepted than they were thats for sure... But I still get some odd looks when people see me outside work (business attire Monday to Friday) to walking around in a singlet with Half Sleeve and full Sleeve.

But all of my ones are designs, not pictures of skulls or ex's names and more than happy to be seen with them as much now as the day I got them, figured if the day ever came I wanted them removed well they would probably of refined the system of doing it by then.

A friend of mine (who has many tats) has had some of her more manky home-done ones removed. She has a pretty high pain threshold and said it felt like having spitting hot fat splattering on your skin.

My daughter and I are inked but I advised her the same thing I thought to myself before getting the first one done: tasteful (in the eye of the beholder obviously) and either in an area where people can only see them if you want them viewed, or at least discreet.

But each to their own. Go into it knowing they're permanent or restrict yourself to the stick on - wash off type. Saves you a whole heap of money and pain.

P.s. I would never consider removing mine, especially since I'm never likely to buried in the family area in the Jewish cemetery!

Got my first one at 18 and almost 34 now and have just continued to get more of them and never once regretted them....

The washable type are versatile, you can change them or remove them so that picking you out of a line up becomes near impossible...

Still stigma attached to Tattoos but times are changing, just slowly.

We are constantly doing things that permanently affect the rest of our lives, just because we might not like them later isn't much of a reason not to do it. Always comes down to weighing up the potential benefits/negatives at the time. I've never felt the need to get one, but damn sure if I did it would be from somebody good at their work, not some muppet with some food coloring and a pointy stick.

Just remember how few years you've actually spent on this planet and how little you actually know about life before you pick that tattoo.

It's a good point. Think how much you have changed over the last five years.

I don't doubt that if you are a hard-working and responsible member of society that you are one who thinks about things even at 17.

Your life is just beginning and you have no hurry.

It depends about the placement of the honey pot

I have a tattoo and am looking at adding another. No regrets whatsoever but it has meaning to me. Not sure that at 14 you can really decide on doing something so permanent.

If it wasn't for the wrinkles folk could see that I started out as a tattoo and gradually got an oldrider scribbled on a limb!

Would I do it differently next time? Yes because I have found oldrider to be fucking embarrassing most of the time!

A lot of this is because there are some awesome artists doing tattoo now, and as my tattooist says " when people see GOOD work, people want Good work". I'm seeing a lot more thought out designs and less "prison Tatt" style stuff all the time. As far as the age thing goes, any decent tattooist working out of a respectable shop has a code of conduct about who they will and wont work on. Ed, you wouldn't happen to have a full back piece would you??

Nova, if you have an idea for ink make sure its REALLY what you want and talk to some good tattooists to see if t will work where you want it.

I'm not sayin' you're wrong, but tastes change. We spent 12 years renovating our first shitbox house, finally had it just how we wanted it, now I look back and there are things I laugh at. Fell in love with a nice lil' ol' property out in the country but wouldn't buy an old house like it again. Now we've spent 3 years designing and building our "dream" home....but if we were to do it again it would be substantially different, even though what we've built seemed out of reach just a few years ago. Your tastes/needs/wants, even what you aspire too, all changes over time 'cos you (hopefully) never stop learning and evolving. It's a big call to say "I'm gonna love this for the rest of my life".

For fucks sake... the word is TATTOOS. NOT Tattoo's.
