IMHO this has got NOTHING to do with Islam and lots to do with hate and mental instability. I've been lucky enough to work in relatively stable Islamic countries and visited Mosques with the people I was working with. It was pretty much like being shown around a local cathedral in an english city. No biggie and these guys were more worried about making sure the car would last another 6 months because the rates were overdue etc - ie all the normal shite we deal with.

Then there are the haters and worse those that exploit the haters and get them marching in the street... However in my opinion religion of any kind serves only to create division amongst people, division generates misunderstanding, misunderstanding generates conflict, then the shit hits the fan as open war.

So in my simplistic view of the whole affair, steer clear of religion, learn to respect the neighbour, treat others as you would expect to be treated in return and we'll be 'koombayahh' into the next century.

If one of us non believers goes to an Islamic country and preaches our beliefs, then we will likely be beheaded as a consequence, or suffer imprisonment or other harsh penalty.

Islam is nothing but a religion that preaches hate toward all non believers. Everyone who is not a Muslim is said to be an enemy of Islam, and it is the duty of all Muslims according to the Quran to wage jihad (holy war) on the non believers.

That sort of shit used to happen with alarming regularity several centuries ago, but the rest of us have moved on from those dark times to a more positive, civilized way of life. The fact doesn't change that Islam is an extreme religion with equally extreme beliefs.

I don't think the average Muslim in NZ has any more extreme belief than the average Christian.

al-Qaeda and terrorist organisations often are responsible for such attacks not your everyday Muslim.
