OpenOffice v Office 2010?

Thanks for the advice. I purchased Office Professional Pro 2010 through work. For $10.00 I get to install it on two computers. As long as I work for the dept, it stays with me. Been with them 19 years now and only have 5 to go to retirement, so cant see me moving.

It has more than I will use but for $5 a PC, I can't really lose out.

For the price of only 10 squids i reckons you made the right choice. Especially if you use MS Office at work too.

You will need to download the installer for OpenOffice and install it on the new computer if you wish to use OO. I do like OO, but if you create a document with OO and then view it with MS Office, there will often be formatting issues which is something you should take careful note of. If you want MS Office 2010 for free then use KMS activator as it gives you a 180 day trial, then you need to rerun the activator again. It takes about 2 minutes at the most to do.

I use open office & just make sure I save whatever it is I'm doing as a suitable file type for MS Office.

I've found OO to open just about anything, not so with MS Office.

Opening documents is not the problem, but document formatting can be. I've made text documents with OO and Libre Office and then viewed them with MS Office, and they look completely different. Same goes with presentations.

I concur. I think if it is saved as a word document it gets around the problem. I'm shite with computers so take this with a pinch of salt.

you can choose custom/advanced install & choose what you do & don't want, might be a way to go so you're not installing everything you don't need & will never use

You could've posted BEFORE I installed the entire programme. Anyway, with a terrabyte of HD on the new toy, the 574 mb it takes up wont be a problem.

Like a dummy, I installed the full version before uninstalling the trial versions. then couldn't work out which was the real deal and which was the trial prog's on the control panel. Got there in the end.

That only has limited success. Since I'm at Polytech and all the teachers there use MS Office 2010, I have to use that or risk handing in assignments that look like they were put together in a drunken haze. That's not a problem for most people who just want to do basic office work, and the cross platform compatibility has vastly improved as of late, but it's still not perfect.

well if you're ever in need of space you can always go back & retro-omit the parts you don't want, but you'll probably never have the need or desire but the options always there
